  2. moobrack, if you read this soon get to bramley on friday night we are doing sparring training or come down once a week either sunday or monday coz we're gonna go through some fighting techniques. and dont worry bout the comp. unless your fighting me!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha  only joking
  3. i agree definatley sensei leak and sempi stramka. they rule!
  4. my favourite moves would have to be mai geri kekomi because there's alot of power in it and empi in any form because its the most powerful wepon on your body.
  5. i would have to agree with you there. i think that tekki shodan is a brilliant kata but im also interested in learning tekki sandan. this is ace!
  6. always kick ass by giving 120%! especially if Sensei Jim Reece is taking you for your grading. sorry Sensei.
  7. mind games dont always work! believe it, it's true! you can play mind games and psyche out Carl Herbert all day, but when it comes down to it, he's still gonna kick your ass!
  8. well i also think that dropping out of a competition because your winded is pathtic, if you dont expect to get a little hurt you shouldn't take part. IT'S A MARTIAL ART!!! of course your gonna pick up injuries at some point and i dont hink being winded can even be classed as that! i hurt a lad doing team fighting he was smaller than me and i hurt his arm but he carried on and "beat" me. but not all decisions can go your way or the right way. you have to deal with it and let it go. i wouldn't mind getting into full contact fighting because it appeals to me. but not to everyone. my personal view on competitions is: I LIKE 'EM, I LOVE 'EM, I WANT MORE OF 'EM!
  9. to show how interested i am in training and how much i like my club ill tell you about it. i attened a club/school at two locations, Bramley and Redhall (both in England) and both run by cheif instructor Sensei Steve Leak. i train five days a week normally and when we start extra classes ill take them too. i intend to become a coach then an instructor, i have been helping Sensei Leak open a new room on the bramley dojo although not last night as he knows the reason for this!! THANX!! Sensei Leak and his other instructors are brilliant and they each have separate qualities that they each bring to the dojo to teach, and i like this even more because i am getting a much broader and stronger understanding of my martial arts training. we also have people from other clubs and styles train and teach at our club/school which shakes things up and adds more excitment to training because its something new. although we had a little bit of a slow patch for a couple of weeks we seem to picking the pace up a bit more now and its getting a lot better. i would reccommend to anyone that they should come to our club to try it out, the only sore point i have is that at the bramley dojo, the majority of the students wont fight/spar. this causes two problems because i personally do and it limits the lessons in which i can train in sparring techniques and limits who i can spar with, because i feel that its important to spar with various partners to be able to see different styles of fighters, because not eerything can be rehearsed. and the second problem is that if the students go for their higher grades they are expected to spar at a reasonable level, so they should start practicing asap. after all it is a MARTIAL art. and you should perform all aspects of it. but the question: how much do you like your club? answer: I LOVE IT!!!!
  10. first of all thankyou angie for the insult very not appreciated. i like to perform on the day of the grading as much as i do in class. if i come out with the top mark fantastic because i know that i have worked as hard as i posibly can. and deserved my belt. as i always put in 110% whenever i train, spar or grade. as everyone at the club can see. as most people at my club will know that through dedication i have completed two of my three grdins with injuries (one pretty serious) and still passed. NO PAIN NO GAIN!!! so my short term goals are to enter more competitions... and win... and although im only a 7th Kyu, another short term goal to get my black belt! you'll understand this now, my long term goals are to get as high as i can in shotokan karate not just in belts, also to gain a shodan in more than one style would be interesting so that i can compare them and see which moves could be more aqppropriate in certain situations. another thing i would love to do would be represent Great Britain at Karate in any field, but i dont think this will happen. but the thought in my head will improve my level of training and concentration. sorry for the amount of typing. i went off on a tengent, im doing it again... sorry!
  11. well i did boxing for a while before i started karate, and i think that is why im very much into the more physical side of karate (sparring). but from the instructors that teach me... Sensei's Steve Leak, Tobias Reece, Jim Reece, Carrie Bates. sorry if i didnt mention someone who teaches me, i mean no disrespect!, i have seen any "big headedness" they are all fantastic teachers and will help me in anyway i want. thankyou very much. i dont think i can but i would hope that if i become a coach at their club (which i am hoping to become) then i would love to be able to teach them something.
  12. personally i like to fight. i am now getting very interested in competition fighting. at the moment i am trying to learn as much about fighting techniques as i possibly can. ive just been told to hold my guard out further and from what i can see this will help me, because my theory is that the further away from you your opponent is the less likely he will hit you by surprise, and you can take control more. but one thing i have been told that will help is the blatently obvious... dont attack imediatley. move around change your stances, see what they do. let them come to you, look for their dead spot... and then beat them to the ground. ha! also if anyone can give me advice on fighting techniques i would be very grateful. Ste.
  13. i agree with bagpuss i like heian sandan. i just think its a nice kata, but the end is hard to get right. i always seem to line up the kiba-dachi wrong or have my body unbalanced. although i must mention that i got taught the first few moves of kanku-dai the other day by sensei tobias reece /thankyou/ and i think ill enjoy that kata. also empi is a kata that im really interested in learning.
  14. That comment about tulips???? what? you confused me now! not hard to do like. this looks more like a rabbi than a cowboy dont you think
  15. i have only just started to learn a little bit about weapons trainig but my favourite weapon is nunchaku... i just wish i could stop hitting myself round the head with them.
