TKD vs Karate
winterkarate replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
well i know absolutely nothin about TKD, but karate is a more rounded art that concentrates on every aspect of the martial arts rather than just the kicks. it a combination of punches kicks holds and throws, and shotokan is a strong form where one of the main aspects is "one hit, one kill!". by saying that karate is more rounded, i dont mean to be offensive to you. hope this helps. ste. -

another form of developing your pectoral muscles is to run... yes if you run with small lead weights on your wrists and rotate your arms properly, (watch professional runners for technique) you not only improve your stamina but your chest will get bigger, across aswell as out. hope thats useful.

thanx moo! and to tobias my last comment was harsh but i wont apologise because we're a shotokan club and part of shotokan is the fighting side. so to say we are not a fighting club is a lie. as you'll know from your grading. and youll find that more students at the clubs like fighting than those that dont. and some of the ones that dont were influenced by certain senseis giving fighting a bad name coz they dont like it. and i really hope that you telling me to go to andt kusack was just friendly advice tobias.

Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan
winterkarate replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Bbuce lee did NOT make a style. he adapted a few to make it easier and free flowing for himself. he never said he'd made one in fact his words were more along the line of there are no set styles just free flowing movements. jeet kune do was not a specific martial art. and in a straight fight JACKIE CHAN would kick his ass. easy! -

dont use your kicks if your too slow only joking. well im not really experienced and im not a very good kicker, im more into punching coz im pretty fast and powerful due to the boxing training i did before karate which is why full contact appeals to me more. but if you practice your kicks and pratice in a way that makes you bring it back like kick against someone that is purposely trying to catch your foot then you should improve.

right ive got a competition coming up and im a little bothered because i dont get a lot of sparring training, which is what im really interested in. but my sensei is starting to help with this now. so my question is, what techniues can you offer that will work in competition fighting? now i dont want to be told body evasion or kizame zuki, gyaka zuki because i know these work. i want people who know how to fight to give me ideas and moves that are gonna score me points! thanks to anyone that could be bothered to read this and help me.
