Hello everyone. This weekend my bride and i are going to have some fun at the Foam Fest in Haverhill Mass. If you havent run any 5 k mud runs, it is a blast. They are very close to military confidence courses. 4 days and a wake up till we party it up with the Mud Runners.

To answer the question....hell yeah the shillelagh is a valid weapon!

I wanted one but the price for a proper one is a bit high. Plus it isnt long enough to use as a walking stick so i guess as a carry with me weapon, it wouldnt work. So i bought this one... http://www.fashionablecanes.com/1072.html?gdftrk=gdfV2384_a_7c453_a_7c8175_a_7c1072&catargetid=1905406334&gclid=CLL0rqPr0rcCFY-e4AodNiEA1g

Sparring For The First Time...
AngelAriz replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We sparred'with no protective gear. I was scared to get hit. I kcked alot in order to keep distance between us but it was kind of messy. Still it was some of the best training i had. I was a short bony kid sparring with 6 foot giant older teens. Good times. -
The sticks are representative of the Espada y daga. I can not afford a proper dummy so i built my own. The dummy work on this video is a bit of a blend of Vunak type of dummy work plus Jun Fan Dummy set 3.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60EPpno9Tv4&feature=youtube_gdata_player A lttle bit of long and short plus some gunting into dummy set 3. Any advice on long and short training methods, Gentlefolk?

I know that and you do too but some sadly do not have a clue.

Fight in a phone booth. That is a strange concept but if you practice evasion by backing up you have to regain the lost ground. Intercept intention and fight in a phone booth. Many people have no idea what to do in very close quarter/clinch range.

Ossu, thank you.

What would you do if. . . .
AngelAriz replied to cheesefrysamurai's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I would train with every Bruce Lee student alive and then buy a pet shop and live well. My training would not change. 5 or so days a week, 2 hours a day or so. -
My primary aim is to intercept and use ONLY simple, direct, efficiency as a means to defending my self. ................... Also ive been told many times that good conditioning can sometimes win over great skill. As such i seek skill in only a hand full of skill sets and conditioning by the repetition. Perhaps it is too simplistic for some, but it suits me.
-
I see a lot of young people wanting to do what i can do however arent willing to put in the time and repetition. But i have opened my yard to people to give them a good training day and most quit right in the middle of training. I used to try to motivate people but now i just do my thing, if you do it too cool, if not cool. Sijo Lee was a numbers fanatic, Guro Dan is, Sifu Tim Tackett does 1000 punches in a pool (in his 70 s no less) And The crazy skilled Tommy Carruthers is a numbers guy. Therefore, im in good company.

Each to his own i suppose.

I train with my students most of the time. I generally only teach privates and small groups. Since i dont have a big group we all get to work on mechanics or speed, rhythm, timing..etc. JKD tends to draw only a few people at a time. The work load is more than most people want to endure.
-
Well solo basics...not really. More like pushing to do a certain strike many many many times with very strict form trying to hit faster or with better mechanics. I talked with some people in the JKD community and all of the teachers i respect have some form of conditioning that includes training a strike thousands of times in an hour. Stamina and faster reaction times result.

Sorry, i fixed it.

How many of you guys offer private lessons?
AngelAriz replied to Himokiri Karate's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Besides seminars, i mostly teach privates. Some people i charge some i dont.
