    Pads

I use them all the time in classes. They are a very good training tool and can be used in a variety of ways.
  2. "Have faith and trust in your Teacher and your selected system of martial arts"....and most of all YOURSELF! Kwan Zu!
  3. Sometimes we just need people to convince us that we have the power inside of us to accomplish anything we want and remind us of what it is that is important in life...and sometimes we just need someone to kick us in the butt when we start getting negative! My first mentor was Herb Nye-my first instructor(TSD). He sparked the passion I have for the martial arts and taught me to believe in myself. I will be forever grateful to him for this. My second was Sensei Clyde Kanekoa,my shotokan instructor, who believed in me enough to pass down his family's system and entrust me with the art that he held so dear. His guidance developed in me a deep sense of loyalty and tradition that permeates my practice today. The third & fourth mentors I studied under at the same time and still look to daily for their guidance. Kwan Jang Nim Tom Callos helped me to be strong and face my fears, and instilled in me a work ethic that has made me successful today-in both martial arts and life. Kwan Jang Nim Ernie Reyes Sr guided me to the realization that there is no challenge that can't be overcome, and that we need to take hold of our destiny and go for it...with passion! Kwan Zu KJN Ernie!!!
  4. We have a special program for kids 4-6 that is designed to be an introduction to the martial arts only. It focuses on developing the skills they need to be able to learn when they are old enough to enter regular classes. Body awareness, coordination, inceases in attention span, fitness...and fun, all have an impact on their lives that they may not get anywhere else. The bonus is the few kids that excel and have the potential to become dedicated martial artists and receive the gifts that martial arts have to offer them, thus enriching their lives even further. I enjoy being a part of that.
  5. I have seen techniques done this fast in person, therefore I have no reason to doubt the validity of the video.
  6. Thank you for thinking of me. I am honored! Congratulations to everyone included in this years vote!
  7. I agree with Balrog...every day of my life! And I have used physical techniques while arresting suspects and restraining combative patients as well.
  8. I agree with aefibird here. We are all guilty of making quick judgements based on what we see. Flashy uniforms and a wide array of belt colors do not make a McDojo. McDojos are identified by the quality of students produced not their business practices.
  9. I think that depends on how you count them ( the steps) and there are no real tricks to learning the form-just repetition. It is a powerful and intense form and should be done with precision and attention to detail. Of course all forms should be done this way but Koryo is...special!
  10. Not an hour goes by that I don't think about something pertaining to my training....be it a technique I am working on or a form (kata), etc. I am constantly visualizing technique and situations and even fall asleep while thinking about it! As for physical training, I am still on the mend and work out lightly about 30 minutes daily...and run 3 days a week.
  11. Welcome! Start now...you're never too old!
  12. That sounds great! Good luck onyour new venture!
