Making someone feel weak and lesser only serves to bolster your own ego, not make a point. By the way, it's Ninjanurse, not Ninjacurse...or did I P#@# you off that much already?

I have already posted my opinion about this in another thread so I won't repeat it, but I do want to say that I agree with Andrew and Raiden (and others with like-mind). Ultimately it comes down to personal choice-I you don't like it, dont.

Explanation = tell what it is and why to do it Demonstration = show how to do it..break it down Action = have them do it Correction =change any bad habits Motivation = make it fun Review = make sure they understand what they just learned

Did you know that Hepatitis B and C can kill you just as HIV can? Do you routinely screen your students and sparring partners for these? How many students are walking around with an HIV infection or hepatitis and don't even know it? Did you know that a simple cold that merely makes you ill for a few days could kill another person if you gave it to them accidentally in class? How many times have you gone to class with the flu or strep throat and trained in close contact with others? Need I go on?

This is true, but most children learn by example and maybe he/she never had a good example to learn from. You could be the first person he encounters that treats him with respect and shows him how people should behave. Wouldn't that be worth it?
-
It all depends on what it is worth to you.

First of all, your parents shouldn't have told you...that invalidates the "test" (no dis-respect intended here). Secondly, I agree with "a modern production"-it's all about what you do when you think nobody's watching that counts. I took my first Shodan test without knowing it-in fact most of Sensei's tests were "off the cuff". He wanted to see that you trained hard and were committed EVERY TIME you stepped into the dojo..not just when you wanted something out of him.

Speed comes from developing the muscles involved in the kick by repetition and dynamic stretching. Flexibility of the spine, hips, knees, and ankles are also important to the technical elements of the kick. When it all comes together-wham!

Since he is a white belt and he has not yet learned respect shouldn't you set the proper example in this case?

How have you given back?

Martial Arts is a gift that was given to me by my teacher, and I pass that gift along in the same way it was given. -
Welcome to the forums! Enjoy!!!

You'd better marry a black belt because if not you'll never see each other. You'll be at the dojang 24/7!!!!! Welcome!!

Should blackbelts be withheld until a certain age?
ninjanurse replied to karatefox's topic in Karate
No, I don't think it is cool, not in any way!!! What a diservice to martial arts as a whole to downgrade the rank of black belt by allowing a 5 year old to hold the rank. Sixteen is appropriate to hold the full rank because of the aspects of maturity and responsibility involved. Under 16, a JR rank could be allowed provided the kid fullfills ALL the requirements. Don't get me started on schools that bastardize the art to satisfy a society that wants more and more but doesn't want to work for it! -
Ahh, no boobs and no periods....nothing to get in the way!!!

I have used my martial art skills (both physical and mental) frequently at work in dealing with aggressive patients and families. "Verbal Judo " often defuses most situations before they become violent.

No, but if you hum a few bars.....

Rice can make you gain weight if you eat too much of it. So can breads and pastas. The key is to eat a balanced diet consisting mainly of fresh fruits and vegetables and complex carbos. Proteins should be lean and fats should be plant based if possible (nuts, seeds, olive oil, etc.) Of course if you're a wacko like me you can eliminate all animal products and get your proteins from plant sources...you'll never have to diet again! In fact you can eat quite alot and lose weight provided you don't overdue the breads and processed cereals. And get this...beer counts!!!!! Simple formula for weight loss: Consume less calories than your body uses each day and you will lose weight. Either decrease you intake or increase your output by adding extra workouts, cardio, etc.

Kamas are a good first weapon as they can be used as an extension of the hand techniques and blocks you already know. I like the idea of the belt...but think about other things around you that you can use as a weapon too. I have seen katas with chairs, small benches, brooms, chopsticks, etc.
