Maybe your mom shouldn't let you take martial arts either !
-
Definitely suspect..and watch your mouth young man !
-
Absoulutely so!

A nice heavy and crisp Gi will make your punches and kicks sound good but the trick is to have "snap" in your techniques while wearing a t shirt and shorts.
-
No.

That is the proper way to line up the bones in the hand and forearm to create the most stable and strongest punch. All the arts I have studied teach the basic punch this way.

You should be honored to be allowed to be the Uke!

Having read all the posts up to this point, I have to say that I am impressed with the depth of thought here. My feelings on the matter parallel most-kirves and martial girl in particular.

Your presumptions are great also. And your comments arrogant and flipant. Nowhere in my training as a martial artist have I been taught to provoke anger by simple words or actions. In fact this is contrary to what the Okinawan masters believed and strove to teach. In my many years of real experience in the real world I have used my real martial arts skills (both physical and mental) to both defend myself and ensure the safety of others. There are many who are alive today because I have used these skills the way they were intended by those masters. I have no delusions about what is MARTIAL and what is not..I believe it is you who needs to expand your definition and learn that there may be more outside the square than inside. Experience is a self limiting factor in being able to make assumptions about what is right or wrong. If you are truely concerned about others in this forum then you may want to consider changing the tone of your posts and setting a good example for the "youngsters" to follow. Opinions can be expressed without insults and antagonism. This concept has more to do with the "Martial Way" than you may know.

With "all due respect", if you read my post without the intent to disagree you would have seen that the message was one of personal growth not the intent to establish a new "kata" to add to a collection of existing ones. Also, your comment about "men of combat" implys that you have vast experience in this area unlike no one else. Assuming that others do not have qualifications equal to yours is a true sign of arrogance and would be taken as disrespect by many-including the masters that you so often refer to. Since you sound like you have learned all that you can about martial arts and kata maybe you should start a "real forum" for "real martial artists" so you won't have to be bothered....and we won't have to be subjected to your small minded opinions.

Incompatitbility of Budo and Christianity?

Exactly HobbittBob. I think a lot of people confuse the two which leads to a whole bunch of misconceptions and problems. -
As long as the journey takes. Everyone will acheive it in their own time, not someone elses.

Creating a new kata for a style and then teaching it to others is indeed a "masters" privledge, but using what you have learned (after 6-10 years of study) to put together a form incorporating proper technique, bunkai, and flow (with and withut a weapon) serves to both challenge and evaluate. Creativity is a powerful thing...many a battle has been won simply by pitting the mind against physical prowess. Never underestimate the value of a training method, or question the master that developed it.

Snapping kicks and punches causes the ligaments and tendons to stretch in disproportion to the muscles around the joint. The imbalance can cause knee pain, tears, and can eventually lead to chronic degenerative changes. Several of my instructors have cautioned about this and stressed (as WhiteBelt suggests) a happy medium between snaps and thrusts. Locking of a joint that is not properly conditioned can cause hyperextension which also damages ligaments, tendons, and joint surfaces. The best way to avoind knee problems is to properly condition the legs and listen to your body.

Incompatitbility of Budo and Christianity?

Is spirituality the same as religion? -
Snap kicks don't help the matter either!

KarateWoman has answered for me!! Thanks!!!!!! Different does not equal stupid or weird, it's just different and, people don't grow-mentally, physically, or spiritually- unless they stretch beyond what they are comfortable with.

Incompatitbility of Budo and Christianity?

I have already posted my opinion in the thread refered to so it will suffice to say that I agree with HobbittBob completely on this one! Sai also brings up a good point about Judeo-Christian history being FULL of mystical traditions. Perhaps a journey to the roots of the "Christian" faith is in store for those who question the conflicts of religion with "do". -
No bounce here!
