Some would say the system I study is Kenpo. It becomes a style when I personalize it, as in my 'style' of fighting. But it's all semantics, we all know what we mean whether you say style or system or the way I get out there and hit him. That is exactly what I would have said had I goten here first!!!
I agree with Karate Woman. If the guy wants to try to defeat you in practice play harder. Don't just stop-use other techniques to take him down. This accomplishes two things. 1: You are not going to get into the habit of stopping everytime a technique doesn't work and you will develop a better sense of how techniques flow into each other. 2: Your very arrogant and disrespectful partner will not be able to gloat and brag as you will have taken him to the mat forcefully and effectively since he won't know what is coming . He may learn a lesson but I would worry more about the lessons you learn than the ones he does.
That hits the nail right on the head!!! (arr, arr, arr ) Developing kime will take time but will happen. You must focus your energy (body and mind ) completely on the task at hand whether it is a kick, block, strike, or throw.
Power is rooted in the legs and comes from the hips AND it is transferred through the body into the technique. Holding the breath or moving with too much tension can stop the flow of energy and actually weaken the technique. Similar to the transfer of energy when slapping out of a fall.
