I train in Atemi Ryu Ju Jitsu - and it has taught me sofar (after first grading) that when on the floor and opponent standing, always have your feet pointing towards your opponent, they are less likely to kick you like this, becuse they are scared of getting a kick in the face - leg or groin, or you could be clever like i was on the grading and take them down by placing youf lowest foot on theirs and pushing their upper leg with your other foot, works wonders

i dont mean to sound rude - but the fact that it would be in each thread would be rather tedious for the readers and users of the thread. -

Height Advantages in Grappling
moobrack replied to moobrack's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I think it is better to practise with taller people for ju jitsu and grappling - taller people have bigger limbs which make it harder to handle. If you can apply techniques on people taller than you - you can do them on people shorter than you by theory. Also you are more likely to be attacked by someone physically larger than yourself. -

But do you or dont you think that height strength and weight have an effect on the speed of which you can adapt to the techniques and pick up on new ones ? -

lol - Being tall has its advantages in sparring and randori - you can use atemi to hold people off with jabs - and also in sparring for other martial arts you can use your kicks to your advantage! -

Hello Seth, Ihave heard of the name - isnt it a small world come to think of it - it aint easy being tall - especially tall and just starting ju jitsu - but let me tell you one thing - tall people have wide hips sometimes - easier for throws! -

The breakfalls are good for me because i can throw myself towards the floor at great speeds and roll and break my fall - without hurting myself. Its an achievement when your 6 foot 4! -

Seth, Im glad to hear that you like ju jitsu - the breakfalling is compulsory for the first couple of lessons - it helps you not to hurt yourself when doing the throws and lock techniques. They are also fun *dives on massive blue mat and does a rolling breakfall* Wait till you get to yellow belt (like me) everything seems to open up to you. More variety is good -
Aikijutsu
moobrack replied to Kyle-san's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I found this information on a website about all jitsu arts Ancient system of combat based on jujutsu; founded by Shinra SaburoYoshimitsu during the Kamakura period (1185 - 1336) in Japan. Also known as aiki-jujutsu, it is the art from which aikido has developed. Sometime during the 13th century, a school existed to the north of Mt. Fuji that specialised in the teaching of aiki-jutsu. It was kept secret except to a few disciples, for the most part Japanese nobles of ancient lineage. This art had originated from Kenjutsu. The term aiki, like ju, indicates a principle, a way of using the body as a weapon of combat. The method of aiki is to use the the co-coordinated power of ki in harmony with the circumstances of combat; by blending one’s strategy with an opponent’s, to attain full control over him and over the encounter. Hope it helps -

Aikijutsu
moobrack replied to Kyle-san's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
We at our dojo do not incorporate or split into animal styles - i believe that kensei is right when he mentions kung fu. Our sensei (7th Dan Aiki-Jutsu, D.Buckley) is constantly showing us advanced moves which he then breaks down into simple movements of which then we can put into our gradings. I train once a week because that is all the time our dojo is open - we are invited to a seminar in waddington - sounds good. No matter how much you get to train - stick at it, it is a great thing to study alike any other martial arts - to do well all you need is commitment! -
I don't have money to train..

Aikijutsu
moobrack replied to Kyle-san's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Hi Kyle-San, I dont suppose i am an expert at aiki-jitsu seen as i am only a 5th kyu yellow belt, but i will try and assist you if needs be. I like it a lot - the art is VERY complete as you say and also the locks and disabling moves are at an all time high when studying. they are more biased in the gradings towards locks and breaks than throws. Because lcks and breaks can be applied from a larger number of positions. Wanna discuss it a bit more just keep on replying. I woudl also like to hear what grade you are. Thanx -
Wow - this stuff sounds impressive, if i had things to practise i would but my training doesnt revolve around tricks - could someone give me some starter techniques and descriptions please?
-
Ours also includes the belt - I think it is a very good offer

At my Atemi-Ryu_juJutsu class i only pay £10 per grading, i dont know about the 1st dan grading though!

Have you thought about writing to any companies asking them to send out an observer or a scout - thats the first move i would make!
