  1. Well what if you just walk away from the person and never see them again. They're gonna keep trying to fight and could possibly end up hurting somebody had you not fought and made them more "weary" of picking fights.
  2. Just a question: How should one respond to verbal threats? If somebody's threatening you and trying to get you to fight what should you do? The way I see it there's two outcomes: 1. Don't fight as it may be considered assault. Also they may have a weapon. 2. Fight and I guess you could say "teach them a lesson" so that they won't threaten anybody else. My gut instinct would be the first of the above. What do you guys and gals think?
  3. I really enjoy it and I guess you could say I have a new understanding of martial arts I guess "One day this person quit showing up. When I asked my instructor where they were, he told me they got hit and didn't like it...... its a Karate class!$%@&!" I guess they were expecting to be the next Bruce Lee or something and finally realized it's hard training!
  4. Just got back from the new dojo at which I attend class and I must say it is a lot of work. At my old school (which was a terrible mcdojo) I was an orange belt. Here, my orange belt is half as good as their white belt. Its sad to see how badly a poor organization can misguide somebody. Now that I'm in a more serious dojo, I sure do sweat a lot more needless to say. I have a long way ahead of me but I'm motivated and ready to learn REAL martial arts.
  5. Just curious, what does a test in Judo usually consist of?
  6. No, don't be sorry. Any help is appreciated. I found a different school that is much better. It's very traditional, the head of the school has been teaching for over 30 years, and they are pretty serious about what they do which is what I like to see.
  7. I don't have much experience but First of all I give you kudos for getting into shape. To me it sounds as though you're doing a good job but you don't want to push too hard too soon as it is easy to injure oneself.
  8. No, of course not a real fight. I've been in a "real fight" and it's nothing to be proud of. Those who WANT a real fight are often those who have mental illnesses and/or end up in prison. I mean like competition.
  9. Hi. I have a question: Does anybody else other than me feel the urge to spar or just to fight? I recently tried out kickboxing and I really enjoyed it. I know this is probably a bad thing, but ever since I tried it I've just been wanting to fight. I'm a peaceful person and I wouldn't ever pick a fight but I do like fighting...is this normal? Does anybody else feel the same way?
  10. I live in a suburb of Akron, Ohio. Most places near my area teach TKD which I'm not really interested in. Maybe I'm just being too picky though...
  11. That's sort of what I was thinking. I ended up not going due to a broken nose (long story) and I gave it some thought. I just want to learn something for self defense as I live in a rough area. The only problem is I cant find hardly any schools that teach the actual art...there's only competition schools. Well, thanks for the advice and for pointing out the "red flags." I'll let you know when, or if, I find another place to consider.
  12. Thanks for your input...I'll keep you posted on how it goes and I'll keep what you guys said in mind. Again, thanks! Here is a link to their website: http://zmakarate.com/base.htm
  13. Hi. I'm new to this site and somewhat new to the world of martial arts. I was wondering if any of the more experienced martial artists could help out: I was an orange belt in taekwondo and found that taekwondo just wasn't the martial art I was looking for. Tomorrow I am trying a different place that teaches judo, juijitsu, and shotokan. the way they're set up is based on a 3 month cycle: one month dedicated to judo, another dedicated to juijitsu, and the 3rd month for shotokan. I'm just wondering, will this be an effective way of going about training because I'm afraid I will start getting mixed up and not quite remember fully about which art was taught previously. Sorry for the long post Any help would be greatly appreciated!
