Just thought I'd ask a question here rather than posting another thread. Okay, so I have a really great core (abs and everything) but no matter what I do, I just cant seem to build my arms. I'm very limited when it comes to weight equipment. I have two 15lb dumbbells and a barbell with 25lbs on each side of the bar. Anybody have any ideas for a workout routine which could help produce results?

Thanks! Also thanks for the idea...I hadn't even thought of that.

Surgery sucks. I'm supposed to put as little force on my core muscles due to a surgery...for two weeks. That's six training sessions I'm missing.

If you feel threatened and feel that you are in danger and you can't run away, let 'em have it! If you hesitate you risk getting knocked out or worse.. Too many people would rather get hurt than face possible legal issues involved with getting in a fight. I don't know about you guys/gals but Iwould much rather spend a while in jail than risk an eternity six feet under the ground. That's not to say to go all out. Use some restraint. If somebody was trying to fight you for a parking space you obviously wouldn't fight as though you were attacked by a knife weilding thug.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice that although UFC fighters have a good ground game and decent kicks, their punches lack techinque. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure theyre very powerful but it seems to me that the majority of them throw wild bar fight type hooks. They also never seem to block punches or kicks. Just something that crossed my mind.

Happy belated birthday!

I run track (100 and 200 meter dash), play paintball, listen to music, and hang with my friends.

What kind of music do you like? What are your favorite artists/bands? My top 3 bands are: 1. Guns 'N Roses 2. Scorpions 3. AC/DC

Thanks for the replies. I'm still somewhat new to the martial arts so I appreciate you guys/gals for being patient and explaining these things to me.

If you could only...

Muay Thai and JJJ. Lots of MMA fighters use BJJ but I figure if BJJ is as efficient as it is, why not study the style it came from? -
Hi. I just got to thinking, a jab and a backfist cover about the same distance but you can create much more power with a backfist. Why do most people prefer a jab as opposed to a backfist?

When I first started tkd, my kicks were caught quite often. I hated that. Having someone catch my kick is one of my biggest pet peeves. I absolutely hate it. I practiced, practiced, and practiced some more and got some help from my instructor and now my kicks are very seldom caught. Just practice the right way and you'll get it down.

"The question is: Izit Muay Thai is the best martial arts? How can u explain that there is no best martial art in the world, it depends a person?" No martial art is superior to another. Some have their ups and downs. In a grappling match jujitsu would kill taekwondo but in a stand up fight, taekwondo would probably kill jujitsu. This is why I feel cross-training is important. If you are good on your feet and on the ground, you will become a force to be reckoned with.

Spinning techniques may be hard/risky to land on an opponent but they sure do pack a tremendous amount of power. Also did you see that guy's head hit the ground? That was a hard fall. Gotta love MMA.

What Martial Arts Have You Studied
datguy replied to Takusankage Soke's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Taekwondo for about 2 years Judo for about 2 years I did kickboxing for about 3 years but then I quit. -
I fear my sensei but in a non-fearful way. I have a great respect for his abilities, his life hardships, and his patience. I make my fair share of mistakes but he doesn't get upset with them.

Kyokushin and grappling
datguy replied to guitarguy's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I'd say judo. In my dojo, we apply a lot of judo to self defense and it's quite effective. In jujitsu, you really can't defend against multiple opponents as well as you can in judo. That's my 2cents anyways. -
Sorry Montana....Yeah it was in the school parking lot.

Well he got his story in first, whatever his twisted version of it might be. Also, our school does have video cameras and I'm sure the camera must've picked it up so once (if) they check it, I'm sure they'll see what really happened.

"Others may say you should avoid fighting and that you were wrong. For them I give you a quote from Gandhi: "I do believe that, where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence... " I agree 100%. I'm not going to start a fight nor will I fight if I have the choice not to. That being said, I refuse to be one of those people who wont defend themselves for fear of the consequences.

The only witnesses I know of were the "attacker's" friends. Either way I don't know if i will be able to clear things up as it's the kid and his group of friends' story against mine.

Alright, so I was leaving the high school from cross country practice this morning and one of the high school weight lifters comes outside and starts calling me names such as pansy and wuss because I do cross country. I didn't even look back because I didn't feel like arguing. A moment later I notice this guy's following me so I just keep on walking. However, when I hear him say hes going to "**** me up" and he grabs my shoulder from behind, I turned around and punched him. He got knocked out from my one punch. Now I guess that since I knocked him out, I'm the one whose going to be getting in trouble. I don't think that is right...at all.
