alright, the choke thing i think you talked about was right though. there was a choke he was trying to put me in but it was really easy to deflect.

can i learn a martial art pretty well through videos?

Im a BB quitter. i came to my dojo pretty much first generation. i quit because it was pure anarchy and i lost all interest in it. they kept making classes for more advanced but those little 7 year old green belts just kept coming in and they did nothing. there was no class where i could have progressed. i was even going up for red/black test and i didnt know anything about the requirements for the belt. thats how bad it was. i didnt even know the first move of the kata that i needed to know.

as im taking bjj. i would still like to keep my stand up skills about me. how can i keep these skills up without hopefully joining a kickboxing academy.

to me there are 2 types of street fithers. 1. The ones who either like to fight or fight for a reason a lot. They are somewhat trained with their "street fighting" style which is 2nd hand martial arts information that has been mangled by people who dont know what they are doing. 2. People who go around hanging in the streets with no formal training starting fights. pretty much the same thing but a little different. Street fighting also includes moves made up by people who grew up on the streets. cheapshots punches to the throat and what not.

i think it is. where i went the teacher taught a more eclectic style teaching more than shorin ryu. over all it hink sorin ryu is great .

i learned under someone that was 2nd dan. he was a great teach.

does anyone have a black belt in shorin ryu here?

in jiu jitsu can u pick someone up and slam them for a take down? is it legal to incorporate judo, sambo ect? any other big rules i should know about? by the way jiujitsufighter, good job on fighting drunk. i cant imagine doing that, and i give props because you took out more than one guy.

what is shootfighting? i saw a section for it on google and i clicked on it and it took me to mma sites. is shoot fighting just mma fighting?

im gonna be doing bjj soon and everywhere i am hearing bjj is the most effective martial art in the world and such. but from what ive experienced its been just grappling and chokes and stuff. what makes it so effective?
