  1. In the UK, anything that may be classed as a weapon IS a weapon. When purchasing staffs (rokushaku-bo) from our local MA shop, they have to be wrapped in bin bags to show that they are not 'in use' If you carry any blade (that can be classed as a weapon) you can be prosecuted again, unless its for tool purposes e.g. a carpenter can carry a penknife if he is using it, but if I carried one (I'm not a carpenter) and got caught I would be liable. The law has really buckled down after events such as Dunblane. I think other countries should take heed. Oh, BTW, someone I know went to the Czech Republic, and weapons were available on the markets - and I don't just mean wood tonfa. There were knuckledusters with big spikes, and AK-47s with no waiting period. cya
  2. We have this a alot - especially in clubs where instructors have come from different backgrounds. You have to remember that there is no such thing as a 'right' way, unless there is a really massive ridiculous 'difference' (we had a problem in our 2 clubs with the "kosa-uke" in Heian Sandan.) But back on the topic - I actually don't know this kata - may I ask what style you practice? Hope this helps
  3. Eye Of The Tiger: Yes, thats one theory. You seem to have misread my post - i didn't say anything about this karateka being japanese Cya
  4. I believe Worts Leg is a special item which at the end of the game does something strange. I haven't completed the game, but this is what I've heard: Goto city [dunno which one]. Place the leg in the horadic cube [once again has to be in a special place], and do something else [something to do with teleporters], then u will appear in a level full of killer cows. Apparantly, the cows are ridiculously powerful, and the whirlwind attack (barbarian) is most effective. More details can be found on a walkthrough - but like I said, I aint completed it, so I can't give more details. Hope this helps Tobias
  5. Listen to G95Champ To my knowledge, Kickboxing was developed by the karate-ka who wanted to practice full-contact point sparring, and do away with tradition.
  6. Cheers Yoda - looks like we're in business. Sorry Bon, my mistake - I just remember you as being one of the guys on this forum who knows a lot Cheers w00t w00t Tobias
  7. Hey I already had this convo with Moobrack but i wanna run it thru u guys...... Moobrack said to me his style was Atemi-jutsu. I said Atemi-jutsu is practiced in all arts, as it means the art of attacking the body striking areas (i think). He then said his style was Ai ki Jutsu. I thought Ai ki jutsu was a more combat orientated form of Aikido (with the "way" changed to "combat art"). Anyway, I'm just checking, cos I wanna be sure what I am saying is near to the mark. Yoda or Bon, I'm looking at you........
  8. Now come on Yoda be fair - its quite clear that monkeygirl doesn't know what she is talking about. But anyway - or a more polite note... MonkeyGirl, who taught you that in kata you should hold the nunchaku high? As Yoda said, kata is a rehearsal for combat - it seems to me that you might be practicing the so-called modern nunchaku-do (designed for show), instead the combat orientated style. No offense meant (even though you have offended me ) Tobias
  9. "The knights who say nee are no longer the knights who say nee...we are now the knights who say Eke-eke-eke-ptang........." Holy Grail - top film
  10. When I wear my PVC jeans, I also wear a Topman belt. This belt can be used as makeshift nunchaku.
  11. ZR440 Yes, thanks for the info. Once again I would like to stress that I respect ALL arts, and do not hold any bad thoughts about ANY of them. I have been offended many a time when there has been a bad Shotokan or Kobudo demostration Cheers for your help - oh, but the master broke a board with a nukite, which I thought was cool Cya
  12. I found AoE2 against the computer to easy......build knights and longbow men (BRITISH!!!!!!) and attack......add a few trebuchets........and repeat.......and repeat.........and repeat...... Oh course I get my backside whupped whenever I play against human players!!!!!!!!LOL I'm so rubbish
  13. Hi all I purchased a basic Jitte from Seni, but I have fallen in love with the design. I was just wondering, if anyone knows, are they supposed to be used in a pair. To my knowledge, they are supposed to be used on their own, but I have seen pics where they are grouped. Hope that made sense. Tobias
  14. I teach weapons as a seperate MA (Okinawan Kobudo), so theorectically you can be a total beginner when you first pick up a staff. We have a range of kobudo students - ranging from a 2nd dan in TKD and a 2nd dan in Shukokai, to a girl who has been training in karate for about 1 1/2 months. You do have an advantage if you 'know' karate, but basically........I decide whether I think you are competant enough to start. Right, I think thats a good enough babble..
  15. Hi I was told by the people that I went with that it wasn't as good as last year. The KSW demo started very well, with a lot of people performing kata synchronised. I was thinking - "WOW, I really like this" Then some pulled out a pair of short sticks (kinda like the size oh chinzo-bo [or whatever you call them]) and started twirling them about........thats when it started....... I saw hardly any effective attacks (and this was kata!!!), instead seeing pretty twirls. Then came semi-free pre-arranged sparring - with the only attack being a very weak kick. The counters were weak, and it was a case of the counters not making contact (with no focus), but the opponents jumping and flying to the ground!!!!! All the KSW people wore shiny black and silver belts (I think), but the master had a red stripe in there (I think). The TKD demo was kinda like a very bad Ashley Beck/KWON demo - lots of breaking (very poor breaking, but breaking never impressed me anyway). There was an 'interesting' staff demonstration - this TKD guy just swung it around, really flash, but there was no power or focus, kinda like what I see at a lot of weapons competitions. Once again, I hold no grudges against ANY martial arts, I just dont like bad demonstrations. Cya Tobias
  16. Speak to Ashley Beck at http://www.ashleybeck.com He teaches musical forms, and also trains very heavily in capoerra Hope this helps Tobias
  17. no body remembered me - I was there!!!!!
  18. I liked Diablo 2, playing as the necromancer - however, it does get boring quickly, due to the fact that it is the same thing over and over again. I got to the second chapter before i got bored. I have now restarted as a soceress, and i play with my dad over a network - its ace, we shout at each othe and all!!!
  19. yeah, I think I do.........I hate in when peopel put on poor demonstrations - it really makes spectators think that the art is rubbish.
  20. Did anyone attend Seni 2002 today (27th April). Overall, I was disappointed with the poor demonstrations, which really gave a bad impression of Kuk Sul Won and TKD. Could someone please tell me why that in the KSW demostrations ALL the attackers attacked with a very weak kick to the groin. This kick was blocked with the same move every time - and I mean EVERY TIME. I'd just like to say that I hold no grudges against Korean MA, I just wonder why the organisers couldn't put on a better demonstration!!!!!!! This question is probably rhetorical, but I dont care - I like a rant. LOL Cya
  21. Phantasmic May I ask about Bassia Ni - who told you about this kata, because to my knowledge, this name doesn't make sense... Ni = two Nidan = second sho = small/minor shodan = first dai = major I'm not trying to cause offence, just wondering.
  22. Yes, the nunchaku is very good for demonstrations, but it is also the most versatile and effective weapons I know. If you are after practical applications, then just substitue a belt for nunchaku. I generally always wear a belt, and therefore 'carry' 'nunchaku'. But you have to realise, not all of us do it for practical application......but Kickchick and I have argued this point over and over again Cya
  23. Too right YODA!!!!!!!! Our theory is that power is more important than flashiness. Therefore we hold the nunchaku near the bottom. In Haji-no-ji-buri - The way that aims for distance and power, by NOT using the wrist, but using the shoulder. - The way that aims for flashiness and demonstrations, mainly using the wrist Hope this helps Tobias
  24. I believe that there is a man called Brian Ford somewhere up north. Everytime I say I do weapons, people say : "Oh, weapons, do you know Brian Ford" Apparantly, Brian is self taught in all forms of japanese weapons, included the art od Iaido. Hope this helps Tobias
