  1. Welcome to the forums!
  2. Not knowing any specifics about your back injury, I would agree that swimming seems to be the safer choice for now. You might also supplement it with back exercises, but before you do that, it would likely be appropriate to consult with your doctor, or physical therapist, etc. to make sure you know what exercises would be safe and appropriate. You wouldn't want to create an even greater problem.

  6. Welcome to the forums! Glad to hear you're back into martial arts again, despite the challenges.
  7. As were already mentioned, Paladin Press, Everlast and Century are ones I like.
  8. Welcome to KF!
  9. Monday: Approx. 25 laps at the pool (I lost track of the exact count) 2 mile run Tuesday: 60 minutes on the elliptical 1 mile run Wednesday: 70 minutes on the elliptical
  10. Welcome Snake! I live across the "pond" from you, so I can't give any advice on schools in your area, but best of luck finding a school and enjoy the forums!
  11. Getting sweat in the eyes can create minor irritation. Its not unbearable or anything, really just more of an annoyance, but I've noticed on occasion that it does seem to bother me mildly. I'm not sure why that is, as I would think sweat and tears are moderately similar in chemistry, but I guess there's enough of a difference that getting too much sweat in the eyes is and interacting with the contact lens is annoying.
  12. We use a building blocks method of training. With beginner ranks we don't worry about teaching the takedowns yet. We teach just basic techniques by themselves so that they can learn the moves separate from having to piece too many things together at once. As they move up through the ranks, we gradually add more complexity to it, so that as they start getting closer to black belt they'll be using takedowns in their techniques.
  13. I can't offer any advice about the foot, but um, yeah, cutting your own foot might not have been the wisest thing!
  14. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
  15. Retiring seems to be hard at first on many people I've known. But as was mentioned above, now's the perfect time to try something new. Sit down and ask yourself some things you've always wanted to try and then start seeing what's feasible for you. As was mentioned, maybe learning a new language, learn to play an instrument (or another one if you already play something), writing a book, or often times places like the YMCA or local community colleges have short term "classes" on various things, like photography, painting, cooking, dancing, physical activities (golf, tennis, volleyball, etc.). I'm sure there are things you've always wanted to try, now's your chance. Don't let retirement get you down!
  16. Welcome to KF!
