  1. Visited the site - man, they have quite a few really funky competitions (double footed kick, sitting jumps). It almost reminds me of the Bonzai show that didn't last long.
  2. Extemely impressive highlights. My respect for Kyokushin just went up a few notches. Wish I had access to competitions like that.
  3. Bruce Lee had a handful of fights. He fought one guy because some chinese people hated the fact that he was teaching Americans. in addition, there are rumors that he had numberous fights with anyone who'd challenge him in his younger years.
  4. I'd spar with Chuck Norris - he's also a kicker and could school me well.
  5. I believe the correct term is promiscuity (sp) - not love.
  6. Hmm... I feel a bit inadequate when I envision myself in the same situation. My first instincts are to strike repeatedly and hard. The only time I'd ever grab is to keep my opponent from running away from my next blow. I think my Karate training would land me in jail if I ever got in a struggle.
  7. I couldn't agree with Jiyn more. For me, kicks are stronger, have all kinds of reach thanks to the knee strike, and sometimes more speed. Though my fists have more snap they do not have the same reach, same penetration power, etc.
  8. I couldn't agree more either. Unfortunately, however, American society has made it exceedingly difficult to foster a healthy diet. Good food, organic or high quality, has become difficult to purchase because of limited stock, and high price - therefore the demmand goes down, the stock goes down, bad foods become cheaper, and the downward spiral continues. However, a smart individual bent on a healthy diet will be smart enough to avoid things such as hot-dogs, soda, chips, McDonalds (help me I'm gagging here!).
  9. The Japanese wanted the war to continue whether we dropped the A-bomb (not H, we developed the H-Bomb after WWII and never used it) or not. After the first bomb, they still wouldn't give up their fight. Russia was about ready to invade Japan during that time. Russia had already lost millions (alot more than we did) due to the war in Europe. The bloodbath that would have ensured between those Russia and Japan alone would have been nasty. Don't get me started on the nature of the war between us and the Japanese imperialists in the Pacific. They were known to NEVER surrender - even if it was just one guy armed with a katana against an army of GI's. -Back to modified food My research paper is completed. Just have to worry about the debate presentation next month.
  10. Personally, you did your community a service apprehending a possible theif, mugger, drug dealer, or whatever scum-bucket that he was. It doesn't matter whether the cop was rude to you or not, you know in your own heart that you stepped outside your own comfort zone to do something out of the ordinary (you didn't cowwer inside your car). You should feel pretty good inside - and feeling good inside doesn't require a pat on the back. Now I'm not saying that you wanted the recognition or pat on the back - that is for you to determine and judge your own motives.
  11. Grandmasters in my mind are usually pretty old - and they should be because of decades of dedication and work. I know of few grandmasters and have only met one in person. The guy was a TKD grandmaster (moderately short) and looked like he was in his late thrities when he was actually in his late 70s!!! I remember lots of pictures in his studio of his HIGH flying sidekick break, and busting a truckload of concrete with his forehead. Master Park was also responsible for training one of the USA olympic TKD teams. If you want to become a grandmaster, you need more than half a century of dedication - you also need to be a proven leader who has gone far and wide to teach your style and influence your community because of your dedication and hard work.
  12. Hey! I think that kickboxing JKD is effective. If I had access to that I'd do it!
  13. I can't argue with that, DLopez. Basically, I see a GM veggie eatter more able to live to 80 than a person who doesn't see anything wrong with most fast food joints (not to mention the chips and fries, and other garbage passed off as food).
  14. That's true, but we Americans have been eatting GM foods for many decades. Then again, perhaps there is a logical explnation for the sharp increase of cancer in our society - hmmm...
  15. Hey woodz... What martial arts do you study, or are interested in?
  16. Bruce Lee was stronger than most men twice his size. He did lift weights. You don't need to lift weights to be a good martial artist - but if you want to be among the best I believe you do.
  17. Good to hear, Eric. Glad to hear of the improvements. You should consider yourself lucky that you have an instructor who isn't afraid to spar his students.
  18. Squats, leg extensions, hamstring curls, calf raises, the abductor machine (if one's available), etc.
  19. Everytime someone's grabbed my leg in sparring (usually cuz of anger), they end up eatting my fist pretty hard. That's just my experience - but I realized that they'd be pretty seriously hurt if it wasn't for their headgear and my knuckles being covered up.
  20. I would imagine that they wouldn't be so involved with grappling as they would about effectively gathered striking arts. In the battlefield, you don't have time to roll around on the ground trying to time that ultimate submission. Just a thought.
  21. I would imagine all kinds of pushups - even the ones where your feet are elevated on a chair. There are plenty of abdominal calisthenics. Etc. However, you can still lift weights and not be muscle bound, in my opinion.
  22. [sigh] Only in america do you have to worry about the legal repercussions of defending your family from household invasion. Makes me want to join an armed militia sometimes...
  23. I never said quality was unimportant.
  24. Greetings, Goku. Hope your journeys in the MAs are profitable.
  25. Actually, asides from the "roundup ready" crop seeds, pesticides are one of the things that GMO's are taking care of. With genetic modification we are using millions of pounds less pesticides that we used to. Chemically blasted, or genetically modified. Which do you go for? Personally I go with the GMO's rather than all the DDT, and crap of that nature.
