  1. So that I might understand better, just what exactly is this topic about?? In a nutshell, please.
  2. Yes, as a JBB. In the dawning of musical Kata, competitors at those tournaments created, made-up, their own Kata to the music of their choice within the prescribed time limits. Just made it up at the spare of the moment; usually right before it was time to bow-in. For the longest, before the newness of it all fell away, I used Te-Fu-Do-Geri...which doesn't mean a darn thing, but as a JBB, it sounded pretty darn cool. Those were the days. Te-Fu-Do-Geri sounds pretty awesome, is it a required kata at your dojo? No. Like I mentioned in my first post in this topic, it's a made up kata and made up name for musical kata's at tournaments in the early 1970's. I suppose that Te Fu Do Geri might mean, but I strongly doubt that, because I made it up... Te = Hand Fu = Gentle Do = Way Geri = Kick/Feet The Way of the Gentle Hand and Feet
  3. All devices on planet Earth...EXCEPT, of course, MINE!! Hehe, I'd find a way to sneak in and use it, if it were the only one left! I'd keep it right with me. However, knowing you, you'd find a way because there'd be a will.
  4. Explain this. When I spar, I look at the chest area, but don't focus on it, using my peripheral to see what moves. I agree. It's like in basketball, where players are taught to focus on the opponents hips; where the hips go, so does the body.

  6. Lowered costs? Yes. Lowered standards? No. Money is just that, of which lowering costs is the right thing to during these very difficult times due to the current pandemic. Money over students has never made much sense to me. Sure, every business is in business to meet their overhead, as well as a profit. However, I can lower costs for all concerned to meet their expectations. I've lowered costs before this pandemic, and I never looked back because it was the right thing to do back then, and it's the right thing to do nowadays. I'll never lower my standards for any reason because without integrity, there's no reason to teach the MA, and no reason to have a business whatsoever. It's not about quantity over quality; that's an oxymoron. Lowering costs do not share the same stale breath with lowering standards; standards remain high, no matter what. I'd stop teaching the MA if I had to lower my standards. I can't say the same for lowering costs. I'd still teach because my standards would remain high, even if I had to lower my costs.
  7. The hospital raised my Co-Pay from Zero to $250 per Scan; with only a 1-day notification...via a phone call. I'm going to the hospital this coming Monday morning to speak with the concerning departments.
  8. Congrats, stonecrusher69; well deserved!!
  9. Please let me pose some questions for everyone... Is 45-degrees effectively enough?? Why?? Does 15-degrees more make the punch much more effective?? Why?? Before you answer these questions, let's please consider this...the close punch profile never changes; palm is always facing up to the sky, yet, it's quite effective to and through said target.
  10. All devices on planet Earth...EXCEPT, of course, MINE!!
  11. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my Bone Scan, CT Scan and Lab on November 6, 2020. It was the harder thing I ever had to do. Hopefully, I'll get another appointment before my next office visits on November 20, 2020. If not, I'll go from there.
  12. Yes, am ahead of you.. Am sure I will do that..so you can get an idea what;s its all about..I hope I did not miss much while I was away.. I look forward to that up and coming video on this topic. No, you didn't miss much, that I can tell.
  13. One of the many things that our Sensei taught us in the regards of this topic, and this isn't meant to lessen anyone's methodology/ideology whatsoever, he'd say... "No care, just punch" Of course he didn't mean to punch anyway and anyhow, but to just punch effectively, no matter the final profile of ones fist. So, when in doubt, just punch.
  14. Most assuredly. Applications bring life to the movements. Really glad that you're back.
  15. Once again, thank you all; we're all a great team
  16. Thank you, Danielle and Devin!! Catching Brian?! Maybe if his keyboard were to cease to work or if his computer were to somehow fall into the bathtub or if any and all devices on the planet Earth that allow Brian the means to log into KF that exist were victims to a long term electromagnetic pulse or if aliens borrowed him, like they did in the movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and returned him later...I might catch up to Brian; after all, it's a worthy bucket list.
  17. Thank you to all who ever served!!
  18. Thank you, all, for your kind words and support for all of these years!! Here's to the future for all of us in the coming days and years.
  19. I watched it last night and I mean, I actually watched the movie without feeling like I was at a Testing Cycle; I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
  20. Yes, I notice the over-rotation of the elbow at its final position, no matter the level of the student, including Dan holders. This is due to the fact that the student hasn't matured yet as a MAist; that takes time, and time takes diligence, from both the student as well as the CI.
  21. Wow...me?? Well, son of a gun. Sure enough. The credit belongs to the countless KF members, who've, over the many years, gave us all a ton of topics to discuss, and it was great to be a part of it. Kobe Bryant once said, while he was watching one of his games with Spike Lee, "Man, I didn't realize I talk so much...". God willing, I'll keep talking so much for a long time to come. Thanks all!!
  22. I've not watched it yet, but I just might give it a try...IF I can watch the darn thing without treating it like a Testing Cycle...for just once!!
  23. In Shindokan, as in many other MA, we've the reverse, vertical, and closed punches. Of course, we've no preference one over another; each can be effective, depending on each practitioner, and not by said punch. Situations, as they vary, dictate to the practitioner as to what punch would be the most effective. However, that decision relies on the practitioners knowledge and experience as to exactly which punch to execute. No matter the choice, proper usage and focus of ones hip movement are critical. The reverse punch has no more power than a vertical or closed punch because of how much the fist turns towards its target; proper hip movements are everything in their separate execution. Whether it's close range or closing the gap, with no proper hip movement, the reverse, vertical, and close punch are no more than a push, and a push can't generate the necessary penetration at the target. Imho!!
  24. In Shindokan, we're STILL taught/teach as well as being constantly reminded this daily, ever since I began in Shindokan in 1964... Study your opponent Study yourself Make a plan Carry the plan out One might say that this concept/methodology/ideology is one of Shindokan's staples; quite effective!! I've spoke about this concept from a Shindokan point of view many times here, one way or another, at KF.
