  1. Naihanchi is a Kata that expands in and through for all MA styles, and it's tenets can't be ignored, and it shall live forever in a commonality of MAists for a very long, long time. It had been once said that if one only trained in the Niahanchi kata's, one wouldn't be wasting their life!!
  2. I truly believe that Daniel and Julie will only have that connection through Miyagi, and no romantic connections whatsoever; Daniel and Amanda are a very strong, union, and love for one another. Even in watching Daniel and Ali reunion, there was that unspoken love for one another, but that was then, and now, they've both separate lives and new responsibilities in a new spouse and children. They're live long close friends, and memories cherished, and not for a season, but for a reason.
  3. Out of curiosity, I'd check it out. Whether I watch the entire thing or not, well, depends on how the story is told, and how fairy-tale it is, if at all. Anyone starts flying, I'd turn it off. I don't doubt the swordsmanship of Miyamoto Musashi who had 60 documented fights in his lifetime. However, 60 is not 400, and to me, 400 is quite far-fetched, and come to find out, there's actually 588 that he fights against. Miyamoto Musashi does take few rests while his attackers regroup for their next assault.
  4. If you can teach, yes. Otherwise, no. Who am I to say if you can teach or not?? A prospective student, but as a student, and as a customer, I am the one who decides who I want teaching me anything, especially the MA. I'd watch no less than 3 classes of each level; beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Teaching ability is everything across the board...demeanor, communication, and effectiveness on and off the floor.
  5. Solid post!! Founders and the like chose what they consider effective to their methodology and ideology. Our Soke chose the Kata's from Okinawa-te and Shuri-te, and then made changes as he felt necessary, no matter how minor or not.
  6. Brian, I like your choses of who could play whom. Maybe The Rock as Bolo. I do agree with your views on the story line being more between the protagonists. However, not to much because after all, what's a MA movie without much MA?!? Mortal Kombat. huh?? I can see that, I just pray that I don't ever see it for real. Wait, wait, wait, ETD had Lee jump up into a tree from the ground...both movies had fantasy elements.
  7. Bob. That's it. Bob. Just Bob. Plain Bob. When it's formal, just Sensei. No Sensei Bob or Sensei Mitcham. When Soke and Dai-Soke were alive, it was Mitcham Sensei...which was quite funny to hear them say my last name...often because of that, it would be just Sensei, or quite a lot of pointing and gesturing. Great thing about the name Bob is that no matter how you spell it...forwards...backwards...upside down...sideways...it's still Bob. I think my parents were trying to tell me something.
  8. Thank you, Brian!! Just tired of having one door after another slammed in my face!!
  9. Karate, imho, doesn't need to be recognized by MMA and/or the like. Neither Karate or MMA need recognition from either because neither are subjected to one another. In short, recognize or don't recognize Karate; in their own rights, they are complete in their totality, it's the practitioner that needs the recognition overall. Once again, Imho.
  10. Ikken Hissatsu...To Kill With One Blow. This, as I was taught, is that all is focused is at and through said target. Scattered brain, is that focus that's not centered on and through said given target. In short, every technique should be performed with full intent and conviction; total resolve, and if not, then the opponent has already won. Reaching an end. Finalization. "I'm the Master, not the student." So on and so forth. These statement demonstrate that the accomplishments, like rank, are far more important than knowledge and experience. It's the doing, and not the end result that excites and drives me. WHAT ELSE IS THERE?? I prefer that over, THERE'S NOTHING ELSE. Seems quite closed mind through and through. To and through the target is filled plethora of possibilities...there's more to this and that, then what one's just reached, like a reverse punch, in that, there's far more than what's at any given end point of the reverse punch. Scratching the surface, is doing something, however, reaching FAR for what's beyond the surface is more important than just the act. My I dare to say, that to me, that's Shu Ha Ri,
  11. To me this speaks towards what Bruce was explaining to his Shoalin Teacher, in the first beginning minutes of ETD...Bruce's words are bolded below... We/I get in our own way to much, and more often than we care to admit to. Daydreaming. Cognitive. I'm aware, but I'm not fixed on just one thing. To do that, I can't be cognitive of my opponent and/or myself as I should be. Mizu No Kokoro and Tsuki No Kokoro...once again.
  12. I'm not a Wing Chun practitioner at all. My core is Okinawan; Shindokan, and from practically day one, we religiously train with a Wooden Dummy. Our style is wrapped around close range, whereas our goal is to get behind our opponent. Our style is 85% hands and 15% feet, albeit, the Wooden Dummy training helps us to mature our close range.
  13. Welcome to KF, Samlarenl glad that you're here!! Solid post!!
  14. No idea; every idea hit a brick head-on!! If there are Grants for Prostate Cancer, I've no idea where else to look!!
  15. Seems to me that the creative powers in Hollywood are quite lacking. Again, not all remakes are a good idea. That's just me.
  16. This demonstrates to me that rank is far more important than anything, no matter the vehicle used. Interaction between teacher and student is paramount because of the nature of that which is being taught. Effectiveness, no matter what's being taught, without interaction of a teacher, is as unsure as the day is long. Just because someone LOOKS effective across the board doesn't mean that they're effective at all. The teacher can't know the maturity of knowledge and experience within the students techniques without any interaction. I'm quite stern on this!!
  17. Scheduled Appointments confirmed: 1) February 5, 2021 at 10:10AM for Lab 2) February 9, 2021 at 8:00AM for Bone Scan [Takes 3-5 hours] 3) February 9, 2021 at 9:30AM for Cat Scan [Takes 1 hour] 4) February 19, 2021 at 12PM for Lab 5) February 19, 2021 at 1PM for Follow-Up Visit with my Oncologist February will be a approximate $800 Co-Pay month. Starting to believe that either my Social Worker is incompetent, uncaring, and/or her obligations towards me are way above her head...or all of them!! I've not heard a squeak from her about Grants or Financial Assistance or nothing, She has so far provided me with a $300 pre-paid American Express Pre-Paid Card, which the hospital doesn't accept!!
  18. Welcome to KF, rikaido; glad that you're here!! Solid OP!!
  19. Our entire Student Body across the SKKA network reacted favorably for the change; as they're taught, rank means nothing!!
  20. I, too, have always seen TSD as a Korean art. As far as it being identified as 'Karate', that I believe is for marketing purposes. The average layperson readily knows and understands what 'Karate' is whenever it's mentioned directly and/or indirectly, but have no idea what TSD is right off the bat. Karate and TSD have some similarities, meaning they both have stances, postures, blocks, kicks, punches, strikes, and so on and so forth. It's for the most, the Kata's are where the similarities end. Marketing speaking once again, if I had a TSD school, and knowing what laypersons know and understand as far as the MA is concerned, I'd stick a big sign that reads...KARATE. The immediate goal is to get the prospective students interest, which will hopefully get them to come inside, if nothing else that to watch class. But, the "KARATE" sign is an attention getter, business speaking, and imho, any MA school that has to meet a monthly overhead, is a business. At the sit-down is when the TSD school can explain a many of things, including TSD and Karate differences, if need be.
  21. I'm pretty sure it's Thomas Ian Griffith who plays Terry Silver. Saw many hints of Silver, to think otherwise. In a final flashback, we see one of Kreese’s comrades, Silver, promise him lifelong loyalty, as in the present-day Kreese looks at his photo and gives him a call. You see them both, Silver and Kreese, in Karate Kid 3; Silver makes Daniel's knuckles bleed at the request of Kreese. Cobra Kai HAS been renewed for Season 4!! No release date, as of yet.
  22. Welcome to KF, Miick 11; glad that you're here!!
  23. Wife and I finished all 10 episodes tonight, with no regrets, whatsoever. Well just one regret...Wish there'd be more than 10 episodes!! Can someone say Cobra Kai Season...4?? Season 3 was far more than what I expected, in a good way.
  24. Sounds just like Shu Ha Ri to me; knowledge and experience change constantly, and have to repeat the newness all over again.
  25. While, for the most, Shodan don't actively promote by themselves; they can sit in on a Testing Cycle but they've no administrative authority. Now, that's the formality of it all. If I was a Shodan, and I wanted to open my own dojo, with or without, the backing of my Sensei and/or the Governing Body, then by Jiminy Cricket, I'd open my dojo no matter what. Of course, there'd be backlashes and the such, more than one can even imagine. Without the proper backing, a Shodan would be a Shodan for quite a long time, if not forever. That Shodan's Student Body would technically be stuck at Shodan themselves with no future rank advancements. Imagine a Shodan promoting ones Student Body beyond Shodan, like Nidan or Sandan, but then remaining a Shodan him/herself. Now, a Shodan could assemble higher Dan ranks to sit upon the Testing Cycle to administer higher Dan ranks than shodan or Nikyu; with a stamp of approval. The scenarios would boggle one's imagination. The worse thing would be the Shodan, as the CI of his/her own dojo, self-promoting themselves to a higher Dan rank, like Godan, or even more alarming to Judan. Integrity would be thrown out with the baby bath water....and this happens at the blink of an eye. My Sensei would've burned me at the cross if I did that, but if I did that, that's my business and not his. Sure, I'd face the reckoning from a school of upset Senior Dan ranks, starting from my Sensei. It would be an upsetting that might never see the daylight of trust ever again. But if I did, I'd first link up with a legitimate Senior Dan rank with authority for the order of administrating Testing Cycles from Nikyu and above. However, here's the stick in the bicycle spokes...as a Shodan, how can I ever teach the necessary materials above Shodan?!? I'd rather abide by integrity across the board. A Shodan has the authority, however limited; any MAist should never assume a position that they do not possess. Imho.
