  1. Shugyo!! That means that students wear whatever the CI dictates overall. However, the CI can make any exception per the basis of each individual student. If the weather permits, then the CI can make any announcement(s) whenever its appropriate. Students don't like the dress rules...quit or suck it up.
  2. Thank you so very much Patrick!!
  3. Thank you so very much!! Normally a Kudan DOESN'T test per say in front of a testing cycle panel. Usually the governing body bestows Kudan and Judan for whatever reasons the governing body deems appropriate as well as the improved betterment of the individual over a long, long time. My Dai-Soke was awarded his Kudan by our Soke when our Soke promoted Dai-Soke from Chief Instructor to Kaicho. No tests, nothing!! Soke held a ceremony...awarded Dai-Soke his Kudan, as it's written in our By-Laws. I'll be posting my entire testing requirements sometime this weekend. Now, I'll never accept Judan...EVER!! Even though it's written in our By-Laws that the current Soke type MUST be promoted to Judan. Well, we've taken care of that by eliminating the Soke type all together; NO SOKE TYPES permitted, and that's been amended in our By-Laws. I was kidding with Greg just two nights ago, telling him that I think he needs to be a Kudan too. After all, Greg's our Kancho!! Greg chuckled and then threw the book he was reading at me...then told me to shut up and don't start anything!! I snickered as I went back to my office.
  4. I had heard about it for the first time when bassaiguy mentioned it here at KF. Rest in peace Jim Kelly. An exceptional MAist; Okinawa-te under GM Gordon Doversola.
  5. How will your instructor see this? Well, if he's solid across the board, he'll not give it any thought beyond...."Hhhmmmmm", and that's about it. No, imho, it's not a sign of disrespect, especially since we live in the year 2013 and not the yesteryears. Just train and train hard!! You'll be fine!!
  6. My methodologies of my teaching structure MUST allow for all types of learners because all learn differently; learning curves vary from practitioner to practitioner. Students aren't out from some cookie cutter; none's the same. This is one of the many reasons that not all black belts can teach!! While the syllabus/curriculum is important, but it's nothing more than a guideline, however, some students get it quicker than others, for one reason or another. While the 7 ways you've listed are solid across the board, it's the 1 thing that must be born...DESIRE!!
  7. The laymen's answer... TKD has more kicks than most Karate...a lot more.
  8. Again, as many here have already mentioned...contact the governing body!! Hopefully, your husbands sensei filed anything and everything with the governing body because sensei's and the like pass away, but for the most, not always, governing bodies don't.
  9. The practitioner should evolve!! But, the art evolving isn't always up to the practitioner...no...for the most part, the governing body decides its path. Imho!!
  10. You're absolutely correct. I didn't have to but I believe that this was an acceptable option because I totally refused the promotion for many, many, many years. But the Hombu kept pushing me to accept Kudan because it's written in the By-Laws and they weren't even interested in changing the wording, and I tried many avenues to convince them across the board. By-Laws was all they knew, and it didn't matter that Dai-Soke told them to "back off" in his special way. It is what it is!! I figured that the only way to shut them up was to offer them to test me, but they took it hook line and sinker to my surprise. I figured that they'd say that Kudan and Judan are untestable ranks, but they threw me a curve ball when they quickly agreed to create a testing cycle that would honor our Dai-Soke; and it was a cruling test, to say the least...I've enough boo boos to last awhile...they tried to kill me. The matter is over and I wish that it didn't have to come to this; meanwhile, I wear the badge of Kaicho with pride, and as far as Kudan, well, that's to be seen for the moment.
  11. I'd be more than glad to do that just as soon as I get home...it's been a long 3 weeks away from home.
  12. Thank you all for your kind words and wishes; they mean everything to me!! Kudan!! It's official; I passed Hombu's testing cycle!! All in all, I believe that if Dai-Soke was still alive; he would've approved the test across the board. I've still mixed emotions, some personal as well as some professional, about how this came to fruition; years of constantly consisting and years of them not paying any attention to my desires. On a personal note; I only wish that Dai-Soke had oversaw the testing cycle. On a professional note: I still strongly believe that my rank should've had nothing to do with my abilities and capabilites to fulfill my duties and responsibilites as Kaicho. Long in the short; the Hombu will keep their mouths shut; or at least I can hope.
  13. The Hombu always has a good turnout and that's because the Hombu's ANNUAL testing cycle is for every Shindokanist; whether they're from the Hombu dojo or from one of the many Shindokan dojo's. Having said that, the Hombu does quarterly testing cycles, but those are only for those students who call the Hombu dojo home. Now Brian, ours may seem a lot, but when I compare it to organizations like the ATA, ours pales. The ATA has some pretty big testing cycles if my memory serves me correctly.
  14. Well... It's lunch time, so I'd figure I'd surf KF until my testing resumes in about 90 minutes. I was privy to my testing requirements late last night, and I've got to say this. What I first read was not what I thought that our Dai-Soke would've approved. However, I didn't read between the lines because once I hit the floor, the dots and dashes made a lot of since. The testing panel is putting me through the paces just as our Dai-Soke would've; if not even moreso. Even though he wouldn't have tested me for Kudan; that would've been bestowed upon me. Greg asked me right after we broke for lunch, how I felt!? I feel fine!!
  15. Our annual testing cycle is complete. Our Dan testing cycle saw a total of 27 candidates fail varies Dan rank promotions while 68 passed; 2 went to Godan and 1 went to Rokudan and Nanadan. Bring on my pressure test for Kudan!!
  16. I hope your ukemi is up to speed. Have fun! K. Ditto!!
  17. Solid post across the board JohnASE, I thank you for it!! Since the passing of Soke and Dai-Soke, we've faced a splintering that was quite damaging at its onslaught, but that was very short lived and the outcome made us closer and stronger for the long term. Yes, and this is proof by the fact that we only expelled one. We're a very solid group!! I believe that person is myself, and I've the support of the entire Hombu as well as the entire student body, and this is why I was elected as the current Kaicho. Presently, I am that man, and I want to be, not for ego, but for the betterment of Shindokan, the Hombu, and it's entire student body. My strength is my knowledge and experience!! Yes, I could follow someone else because Shindokan isn't about me, it's about the betterment of Shindokan as a whole. I'd leave if it meant that the betterment of Shindokan would gain even the slightest improvement because Shindokan is for everyone, and it's not just for me. I've no ego to bruise!! I've contemplated many things since I've been Kaicho, but Kudan ISN'T one of them. They're getting what they want; let's get by this and concentrate on things of greater importance and not what rank the Kaicho has to be.
  18. This is wise. I'm glad he said that to you. Actually, I'm glad he said it as well because I depend on him across the board; we're two peas in a pod, MA wise, that is. Test will be this Monday, July 8, 2013.
  19. Thank you for sharing that with all of us, and you're absolutely correct...age shouldn't ever be a factor, and in her case, it certainly wasn't.
  20. I'm hoping that I'm still doing anything at 84; breathing and walking are at the top of my list.
  21. Maybe Ohio's crime rate isn't as high as it is in NY; that's if crime stats are a considering factor in their decision(s). Given NYS rep on taxing things to death I'm surprised that the revenue side hasn't caused it.to pass any way. Great point!!
  22. Maybe Ohio's crime rate isn't as high as it is in NY; that's if crime stats are a considering factor in their decision(s).
  23. It's ok. Hopefully you will be soon. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!
  24. Wow, that's quite a while ago. Prior to my latest stunt, it was early 2010 that I competed last. Something just feels wonderful about the thrill of competition. Yes it is/was...I'm 55 years old, 56 this October.
