  1. Nice change-up at 3:06!! Nice reverse punch at 4:09!! On a side note, most tournaments have said competitor turn 180, sit facing away while the one injured is tended to, but, not in this case!! Still, very nice exchanges from them both!
  2. I know they are pretty good ones but as you said it's very expensive I got a soft copy of Essential Karate from a friend. If I was you, I'd not let that out of my sight. I'd attach a GPS to that thing so I knew where it was at all times.
  3. Imho... No! Not all Kyokushin tournaments are to knock-out; things happen. The kicks that I'd worry about depends on rank. Not many white belts know how to properly execute an Axe kick, if at all, and probably won't be in a beginners syllabus. The Axe kick is one of the most damaging kicks in your style, imho! Not many white belts know a spinning hook kick, another kick to avoid. White belts might know how to throw a roundhouse kick, but might lack power, but the mass, might be enough to be concerned with. Future Events Appearing Real = F.E.A.R. In time, the more you spar, the more confident you'll become. In 2-3 months, you've only sparred twice? Not good!! How often have you trained in 1-3 step-sparring? Step-sparring is the pre-requisite for free sparring, imho. Got to get wet by getting into the water if one's going to learn how to swim. So, learn how to deflect/block effectively!! If not, well, learn how to use proper footwork or close the distance; either way, if all fails, DUCK/GET OUT OF THE RANGE!! Jam the kick, and most kicks are 4 counts, so get up close by the 2nd count and punch/strike the tar out him/her before they can do the same to you. You've only the kicks to worry about seeing that your style doesn't allow head punches/strikes at tournaments. To me, this will create an unknown area of your defenses; false security. How so? First attacker that punches/strikes towards your head, you'll not have the minimum of an idea on how to properly react effectively because you've not dealt with these type of attacks because they'll be foreign to your mindset via tournaments.
  4. Same style; same rank! Different style; different rank [beginner/white belt]! The governing bodies can fight and argue all they want while you train!! Governing bodies worth their salt know that, and in that, they're there to administer, not to interfere with said dojo.
  5. Solid post...SOLID!! That fabric IS, at times, the forest that prohibits one to see the beauty of the trees; each tree!!
  6. However, said MA should be effective before it becomes different, imho. Otherwise, it's just different the wrong way.
  7. Again, this is a very sensitive area that I'd tread quite carefully for everyone involved. All in all, I'd sit down and speak candidly and frank about it, and reach an agreement. Speaking about everything together concerning what might or might not happen. Therefore... Solid post!! Neither of you are unreasonable, so, working out the logistics is doable.
  8. First of all, Welcome to KF!! Check out this link, it might help you... http://www.wingchun.org/text/schools/usa/ca.html Visit the ones that are close to you and check them out thoroughly; not just once but many times until you've made your decision. Good luck in your search, and please, let us know how the search goes.
  9. ::Clears my throat:: ::LALALALALALALALALA:: ::Drinks a sip of water:: Ok, here goes...Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Alex, happy birthday to you...and many more!! Happy birthday, Alex!!
  10. Nice, but I still prefer rope over chain!!
  11. Completely opposite of what I saw in your video link, which was completely absent of: Transitions Footwork Posture Balance To name just a few important elements above that make up the totality of kumite. Study your opponent Study yourself Make a plan Carry the plan out Not....walk up and trade rock n' sock em punches with an occasional kick!! Even the center judge was trying to get them separated so that they could engage in meaningful kumite. For example... OR... [Two of the best, imho]
  12. I don't know what it is that I was watching but I will say this: Ineffective techniques equals meaningless techniques. I don't know how the judges even determined anything, let alone a winner/loser of said match. Their bowing was about the only strong technique.
  13. If I was a Kyokushin practitioner, this book would be the Kyokushin bible for me.
  14. You're right; it's an amazing book cover to cover. A must, imho, to any MAists library. Yes it is Even more so if you're a Kyokushin practitioner.
  15. I wholeheartedly concur here!!
  16. You're right; it's an amazing book cover to cover. A must, imho, to any MAists library.
  17. Alex, Enjoyed watching the videos; thank you for them. I would've loved to hear what was being said by each instructor overall!
  18. It would be an honor to attend his 50th anniversary celebration!! Yes, please, by all means, if you hear anything new from the Genbukai sensei's, it would be greatly appreciated.
  19. Any tips from recovering from Toe injuries? I thought my big toe was just bruises etc but Im suspecting worse at the moment. Still slightly swollen after two weeks and while I can bend it back ok, not so much forward and can be painful to the touch. Im still training but in sparring Im not using that leg at the moment. Prob going to get an xray just to be sure but looking to see how help it along. Im guessing just time and keeping it safe. Tape the injured toe and the uninjured toe together, but, try to tape said injured toe to the next biggest toe for more stability. HEAT AND ICE over and over and over... I hope you're feeling better soon!
  20. WOW!! Quite a conversation. His speaking about the 100-Man Kumite was interesting. A very rewarding interview/conversation!! Thank you for sharing it.
  21. I wholeheartedly concur!! Zach will do just fine!!
  22. You're very welcome!! You can look at the various Emoticons, located to the left of the posting box, and possibly find one that can convey a "like" or a "thanks". That's what I've done; seems to work.
  23. Well, if they're only ornaments at ones home, then I believe that said owner can display them anyway they see fit. How is it hurting anyone? Imho!
