  1. IMHO.... This bears to be repeated....it's not the style that's at fault, but it's the practitioner who's at fault!! Shindokan isn't just stand-up karate! Our brand of Tuite and Tegumi has methods that can fend off a charging grappler, but again, things happen that don't and won't favor me! Yet, I don't panic!! I'm not a nice and fair fighter!!
  2. Thanks for the heads up; I'll have to check it out!!
  3. Solid post!!
  4. First off, I want to thank you for your much needed post! I want to also wish you and your son a successful testing cycle; relax and allow the testing cycle take care of itself. If the two of you have trained hard all of these many years, than you two have nothing to worry about. It's both an honor as well as an exciting event that your son and you will continue to share, not only for the moment, but for a lifetime; your journey isn't ending but it's only continuing!! My feelings about child BB's obtaining rank is well known; I'm dead against it! That's my problem!! Therefore, I only want to support your son's testing cycle and to not rain on anyone's parade because of my very narrow opinion on the subject!! Good luck to the two of you in your upcoming testing cycle, and continued happiness in both of yours journeys!!
  5. After all, aren't adaptations just the latter part of Shu Ha Ri??
  6. A noted intent! Not in a passing intent, either!!
  7. Ditto....I missed you....glad you're back!!
  8. God forbid should any Sensei get older!! Put them out to pasture!! Change is inevitable; age isn't an exception!! I creek when I didn't before! I snap, crack, and pop when I didn't before!! Forgive me for not being the young man that I use to be! I may not move as eloquent as I use to, but, my techniques are solid, and my mind's sharp as ever, and my knowledge is undeniable! Yeah, there's snow on the roof but the fire still rages on within!!
  9. Great topic! Thank you for it! Great OP! Many great points the far! I believe that it's important in increasing one MA betterment by training outside with fellow dojo mates whenever possible. Any type of training outside of the dojo should be encouraged by the CI. One bit of advice...the key word is "training", and that means just that!! Exchange ideas and the like but don't teach; that's your CI's job!! While intents are innocent, one needs to be careful to not teach something that is incorrect, therefore, damaging the good muscle memory.
  10. I am in very good company! Me too!!
  11. I can only suppose that something must of occurred in the past for the JKA to make this rule. And it seems that the JKA isn't apologizing for their stand on this issue.
  12. I've only one thing to say...whatever the Hombu decides, that's what the expectations will be across the board. Have a concern, contact the Hombu!!
  13. The dreaded sine wave! Does TKD sparring utilize the sine wave?? If not, then why do sine wave in forms?! Still, I love your OP, Brian!! Thanks for sharing!!
  14. I hate sounding like a broken record, and please forgive me if I do, but... Great tutorial, from start to end!! Your students are quite lucky to have you on the mat...your through...step by step...without ambiguity in your teaching style...yeah...I like it quite a lot, Alex!! I'd love to roll with you anytime!!
  15. Great tutorial, Alex: as always. Transitions were smooth through and through!! I can't wait to see your DVD series...when you make one...which I hope will be sometime during 2015. I believe that you should make one!! Thanks for sharing, Alex!!
  16. 2015 Goals?? 10% increases across the board!! Any other goal will have to wait...for now!!
  17. As always, it's an honor to have been nominated, as well as having the distinct honor to have won at all. I was in great company in the categories that I was fortunate enough to be in. Thank you from the bottom of my heart; means the world!! Being tied with Brian as having earned 13 KF Awards is pretty cool. Thank you ALL!! Until next year...GO KF!!
  18. I've been invited to this dojo in the past, but, my schedules haven't allowed me the opportunity, as of yet. Their Shihan hasn't been to that school as often as he use to be due to medical issues...I pray for him daily!! everygrey, an old KF member, and once part of KF staff, Ev, can be found front center in her green belt. 2nd from the left in the back row, is her fiancé, Mike, who's a Sandan. Sensei Wah is to your immediate left. Thanks for sharing it...you lucky dog you!!
  19. Even the publisher of this video mentions that the NAME shouldn't be considered important, in this regard. I wholeheartedly concur!! I've seen both of these kicks, and I've heard them be separated and I've heard them to be the same per its label. Is he correct? Yes!! It's what he knows per his style's syllabus...methodology...ideology. My style doesn't do the second one at all. On a side note...Ever notice in the beginning of his video, while he's kicking the bag, he's telegraphing his intent quite early?
  20. That sums it up well. Agreed Excellent post !!! It's one of my favorites! What Alex, tallgeese, speaks towards is prevalent across the board for every martial artist, not just some, but for all. The MA isn't suppose to be easy; it takes a lot of perseverance to overcome the highs and the lows that a practitioner will encounter from time to time. I've reached many lows, but I've also reached many much more highs. I've been burned out for personal as well as professional reasons, but I had to find a way to get through it. Not only for my sake, but for the sake of my students, yet, there were times that I didn't think that I'd get through the grind. The grind, at times, got to mundane to endure both as a student of the MA and as a teacher of the MA. Repetitiousness drove me to hate the intent. Only twice that I can remember, I walked off the floor and threw my belt to my Sensei...once when I was a JBB and once when I was a Rokudan. Who's fault was it? Was it mine? Was it my Sensei's? Was it my students? What's wrong with me? NONE OF THE ABOVE!! Things happen, imho, that are beyond our control...they just creep up and the bottom, for the briefest of moment, occurs. SHUGYO!! Had it not been for God alone, I might've walked away for good...but I didn't. The grind DOES get better and it happens more and more lesser. Key, for me, is to be aware of the signs....react to the signs in a positive manner...and just get through the moment. We're humans, and in that, we aren't perfect, therefore, we struggle from time to time. Having a Senior Rank doesn't prevent the effects of the grind from happening!! It's how you wear yourself that negates the perception of others. My grind isn't always MA induced. Often times, as of late, Administrative Responsibility grinds overpower me...but, still, I just marched through because no matter how dark the tunnel may appear, the light at the end of the tunnel is reachable!! There is a higher force...in Him will I trust only!! I've loved the grind because it's part of the MA, and in that, I love the MA; the MA wouldn't be the MA if the grind didn't exist!! After all, imho, the grind isn't a punishment!! The grind, in and of itself, has its own rewards.
  21. Romo is NOW 6-2 on Thanksgiving Day: 34-10, with the Eagles the winners. This game, imho, was over before it began for the Cowboys. Eagles dominated the game, and in the end, the 10 points the Cowboys struggled to get, wasn't enough...NOT EVEN CLOSE!! Cowboys are now 8-4....2nd place behind the 1st place Eagles. GO COWBOYS!!
  22. Yes, laws may seem far fetch, but they are the law of YOUR land, and they must be enforced by those who's job it is to enforce. In the USA, if you've a chance to get away, and you choose not to, then you're as guilty as the thug who attacked you. Defend yourself, but that thin, and often invisible line, mustn't be crossed because we can't take the law into our own hands. Having said that, the "heat of the moment" isn't a defense in the courts, yet, I will do whatever I must do to protect my family and myself. After that, the courts can decide if I was within my constitutional right to do whatever it is that I'm accused of. I do not hit, "it" hits by itself!!
  23. Yes, a belated Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!
