Does anyone here teach their own children?
sensei8 replied to muttley's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Great topic!! I've four children, from two marriages; two boys and two girls. I've taught to one of my girls and one of my boys. Neither of them reached BB; respectively, one to nikyu and one to gokyu. Other interests won their attentions, and I'm fine with that because I've never insisted to them in any shape, way, and/or form to follow my MA intents; they've their own MA paths, as I've mine. I've thought onto myself from time to time, if I would've wanted any of them to reach Senior Dan ranks? NO! Their MA journey is theirs through and through, and for the two that had interests at one time for the MA, I'm deeply proud of them, as I am with the two that never once considered the MA. I support them all wholeheartedly no matter their chosen interests!! Two tips that I'd like to share!! I never approached them, their interests were of their own design. In that, I never treated them different than any other student; I didn't favor them nor did I pressure them more. To me, a student is a student, and neither of my children received special treatments either way. Also, don't "old school" them because that, imho, will drive them to hate you and/or the MA; either way is a no-win scenario. -
Very nice!! Thanks for sharing that!!

Solid post!! Per my doctor, I'm supposed to drink about 200 ounces of water, without physical exertions. In that, my doctor says that if you're thirsty, it's to late; you're already dehydrated. In addition, a little test to see if you're hydrated enough is... The color of your urine. If you're properly hydrated, you're urine will be the color of lemonade, and the darker the urine, the more dehydrated one is.

How much, on an average, do you pay the JKA Shotokan club per class you attend?? I like how that's working for you when you're traveling; interesting concept!! 10 dollars per class during regular class time and 20 dollars per hour for private classes. Cool...not a bad price at all!! -
Solid post!! That's an excellent point, and one that I hadn't spoke towards in my OP! Thank you for bringing that up.

What's an interesting or unique fact about where you live?
sensei8 replied to cathal's topic in General Chat
Forgive me, but, I had to cheat to think of anything about Houston, TX. After all, I just moved here February 2015. So... http://www.10-facts-about.com/Houston/id/153 I lived in Owasso, OK, part of Tulsa, since January 2000; until we moved to Houston, TX... *Owasso is now over 100 years old! 1904-present *Owasso is an Osage Indian word meaning "Turn Around" or "End of the Trail." The "End of the Trail" painting is our official symbol or logo, which is found all over town, from police badges to a large mural on the side of the Historical Museum building on Main Street. *Owasso officially became a town under Indian Territory laws in 1906, then was later chartered as a city on September 28, 1972. *The Owasso 74055 zip code area has an estimated population of 38,412 (2010); but, serves a retail trade of approximately 700,000. *The City's primary source of income is sales tax. -
*Kaicho [President] of the SKKA *I've owned and operated my own dojo since 1977; Kyuodan Dojo (3 different locations in 3 different states; fixing to be 4 different locations). My last dojo was also a MA supply store.

Can you pick out a Kyoshi...Renshi...Hanshi if they're NOT wearing their signified obi??

What to move...When to move...Where to move... also support the How to move; hard to have one without the others, imho.

The MA helps to build and increase ones confidence; it's rooted in its core. However, like anything in the MA, it'll take time to acquire. One of the key elements in acquiring confidence in the MA is having an instructor that's honest, and supports their student body. Sure, mistakes occur, but every successful thing that a student achieves on the floor, big or small, celebrate it with the student(s). And when those mistakes do occur on the floor, support them with encouraging words and counseling. Imho, an instructor that has great listening skills is above the curve.

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, ::SING WITH ME::, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday, Noah, Happy Birthday to you...and many more!!

Just my penny worth, but, "we" already know how to move; it's the refining of the act, that still needs to be learnt, and then re-learnt for ones eternal MA journey.

Very nice there, Noah; indeed!!

Here's what we do... http://www.karateforums.com/returning-to-the-ways-of-old-vt37058.html?highlight=returning+ways I only wear certain obi's per the formality required per the occasion!! Informally, I can be found practically wearing any variety of obi per my mood. I do kowtow to what the Hombu dictates in this regards. Funny thing, I helped write the new rules and regulations that we're subscribed to through the SKKA. Soke, therefore, Dai-Soke, were staunchly strict about the formalities across the board!!

Yes, thanks, Noah; and it was very interesting.

Very interesting; I like the idea. Might work in the USA, maybe, but it would probably work regionally instead of nationwide, maybe. Thanks for the info, Wasp!!

Btw, I had a very interesting, yet quite productive meeting with the two separate realtors, and I've more meetings this week with these realtor to discuss a many things before I can go forward. I'll keep you all informed. Oh, yes, my sister's out of the hospital, whew; she came home yesterday afternoon after my wife picked her up!! Scares me each time!!

While we DO yield, if need be, we highly strive to move forward across many transitional lines FORWARD, because it's our way. I agree on what's been stated about Kata, as it's involving our discussion here, and if I may, our interpretations is that, we don't go backward, if we can help it, and in that, it's in agreement with receiving any attack while advancing forward.

If that's per year, then that's a fantastic price structure!! Do you have to pay it all up front, or per month??

Do it again!! Do it again!! Do it again!! Do it again!! Do it again!! Do it again!!...for the rest of my life. I'll get it right, one day, but until then...Do it again!! Do it again!! Do it again!! Do it again!!...

Thanks, Noah! I've got to get out more often...sheech!!
