KarateForums.com Awards 2008: Winners Revealed!
Tiger1962 replied to Patrick's topic in KarateForums.com Announcements
Congratulations folks and....thank you for the votes as well. -
I saw one online but it was priced at $599. Yikes! I didn't realize they were THAT expensive. I'd love to surprise my husband with one of these as a gift (of course, I would use it too ) Does anyone know of any U.S. suppliers that are somewhat less than $599. ?

Thanks for the info. No, I don't do any video editing or download porn. Most of my computer usage is accessing work e-mail from home, storing my personal music, (iTunes, etc.) and photos, and just basic stuff, nothing fancy or complicated. I hope you find the info and help you need - good luck and thanks again.

LOL - well at least there is no house-breaking or wee-wee pads for that ! Congrat's !

MMA a strategy?
Tiger1962 replied to bushido_man96's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
My first inclination is to say it's a strategy more than an art because of the ways you have to "strategize" to subdue your partner - and the different ways that exist to do that. But then, those reasons are why you feel it's an art. LOL I guess it can be both, no? -
Which makes sense. I have shin splints and I am not a runner. Go figure.

Hi I don't know how to do that, but I wanted to ask you - were you happy owning the Mac and just upgrading now or moving away from Mac completely? I keep hearing how Mac's are virtually virus-proof and that's something that makes me consider getting one.

Glucosamine & Chondroitin Supplements ?
Tiger1962 replied to Tiger1962's topic in Health and Fitness
So, if I understand this correctly, there are no real supplements out there that you can take to strengthen tendons the same way you would take calcium to strengthen bones ?? -

Curse of the purple belt.
Tiger1962 replied to Shotokan Student's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
That's ok, I'm superstitious like that sometimes too. I think sometimes its just nature taking its course. As you move up the ranks and become more senior, other things in life take priority and martial arts is forced to move to second place in life, so you either have to quit or can't attend as often. Sometimes, anyway. As far as the injuries go, I can't really comment on that because I've certainly had my share of breaks, knocks, bumps & bruises even BEFORE I've reach BB level, but I just take a break, heal up and then I go back. Besides, wasn't the "curse of the Bambino" broken too ?? I think you will just be fine! -
Meditation for Combat Effectiveness?
Tiger1962 replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
LOL !!! I do that too sometimes !! Sometimes its easy to meditate and sometimes the mind just won't quiet down. LOL -
I loved this show! It was a series that was on TV not too long ago - I enjoyed watching all of the episodes and I remember this one in particular too. The techniques they showed the girls doing are actually quite simple to do, I've actually tried the one where she spins around and found it very effective on my partner - LOL. Sometimes the most simple techniques can be the most effective ones.

"Lying" for Protection?
Tiger1962 replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes, I think that's exactly true too ! -

I respect anyone that follows the philosophy of their martial art, whether or not I agree with the principles. To my own I say I might believe in some of the principles, but not others. I do like to train but would not want the philosophy of my art forced upon me, because then it would turn me off to the whole system. I think it should be optional for the practitioner and not forced upon them by the instructor or organization. As long as one maintains discipline and respect in the training hall and practices and knows their requirements, what beliefs you follow or practice, or who you pray to outside the training hall is your business.

"Lying" for Protection?
Tiger1962 replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
To me, it would depend upon the situation. But I really tend to lean more towards not saying anything until I need to protect or defend myself and even then, its what I DO, not what I SAY, that is going to count and help me in the long run. I believe that when you're a woman, there is more of a challenge (than if you were a man) seen by the eyes of the attacker(s), if he knows you are trained in the martial arts. All the more reason to not say anything - and - as Chikara mentioned - until you really need to. You do what you have to - to protect yourself. To me, staying alive is what counts: not my conscience, and not the conflict of lying vs. not lying. -
Let us know how the womens karate gi works out for you if you do decide to get it. I had to tailor mine on the sleeves because they were unusually too long.

What breed of puppies did you both get ?

Hi there and welcome! I'm no doctor, but I think you're off to a great start by riding a stationery bike. Assuming you've had a doctor's "ok" to begin an exercise program, the stationery bike is a good choice in particular. If you feel that the bike becomes too easy for you, you can either turn up the resistance on the bike or move on to either the treadmill or the ellyptical trainer. I like the stationery bike because you can read, watch TV or listen to music while you're on it and the time flies. But, for the best & safest advice about starting an exercise program, it's always good to first consult with your doctor and then once he says its ok, then you can continue with your program. Kickboxing is a good choice because it burns a lot of calories and is a very "active" martial art.

Congratulations on the new puppy! Regarding ideas for the crying: what about when you are not home, leaving a radio on to a news or talk station - maybe that will make her feel comforted? I also read somewhere that giving a puppy your old sock or tee shirt that you have worn will comfort them because they will smell your scent and since its old, its ok to chew. I would also buy her lots of rawhide chew toys and keep her in a designated area when you go out so this way she won't chew up the furniture. I miss owning a dog!

There are a few things it could be & its hard to guess with just that sensation alone. As tallgeese said, wait a couple weeks and then if the feeling has increased or you have additional symptoms check it out at the doc. I have a habit of always looking up my symptoms online on medical websites whenever I have something or feel like I have an injury. That's good but it could also drive you crazy. LOL

Dojo Rules/Protocol/Etiquette
Tiger1962 replied to NewEnglands_KyoSa's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Manuals are an excellent idea and so is posting some of the rules too because you never know when someone will say "oh I lost the manual or misplaced it."
