sansoouser Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Do you think that someone is born with the ability of fighting, and doing it very well with no training? Well everyone says I can fight and fight really good, and they say since I started doing martial arts I have become 100 times better. Here are some things they say I have which I think might make a good fighter, scrappy, tough not just in strength but in overall toughness, a will to win, never giving up until you can't fight. You see when I get into fights even with the tough guy I see it as me or him me or him. And well i'd prefer it was him. I was born with fast movements and good reflexes and unluckily for me and my opponent a low boiling point. But i'm working on it, use to be if someone said something about me well then SPLAT! They were on the ground. Well anyway do you think people are born fighters? The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.
shotochem Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 I prefer to be a thinker than a fighter. Violence is a last resort when reason will not work. The most powerful weapon in your arsenal is your mind. 20yrs ago I was the same way, now when I can really fight I don't see the point. You will get more patient and tolerant with time. Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
kchenault Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 My brother was a natural born fighter. He was also a wrestler in High School. He would take on 2 and 3 guys at once and kick the snot out of them. My younger brother is this way as well. Natural born scrappers. Ken ChenaultTFT - It does a body good!
Treebranch Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 I think there are people born with the natural ability to fight. Just like there are people who are born with the innate talent to draw or paint. People are born with certain talents that sometimes are never found. It does take a certain kind of person to be a fighter. Some people just love to fight. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
telsun Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Yes some people are "born to fight". Some physically and some mentally. The ones with the natural physical ability will do well in lots of sports, these are the ones I admire. The mental ones usually have issues to overcome these people I do not envy at all. They have psychological problems that I would not like to have to overcome. Martial arts can help these people but most will always be "looking for a fight". Don't get me wrong there are people that are good people who can enjoy fighting. But no Good person will enjoy inflicting pain on someone. If you are a natural fighter then make the most of your ability but please keep your feet on the ground. I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
G95champ Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Yeah some of us are athletes and some of us are not. Those of us who are not we have to be really good techinaclly. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
GrrrArg Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 My instructor is what I would call a natural born scrapper.
Michael Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 ahh a friend of mine is the same, he just knows how to use his body. I take jujutsu and he would be great at throwing people. We play in the same team in soccer and he consistantly manages to not only tackle anyone with the ball but also flip them over his hips, its incredible to watch.
Prodigal Son Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 I think we are born with aptitudes for certain things - I am a competent fighter and musician, but hopeless on a football pitch or with a paintbrush - so it's not just about strength, speed, 'creativity' etc. And some people are born with the aptitude, but can't finish anything - but those who are born with determination and much less aptitude will do better if they choose to take up MAs... Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Telsun made some good points - but I would add that no great fighter LOOKS for fights or has a short fuse, because that will ultimately lead to their being beaten by one who is better on the day. A great fighter should live and die undefeated, and that means choosing your battles carefully. >>>PS<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------Self-defense is only an illusion, a dark cloak beneath which lurks a razor-sharp dagger waiting to be plunged into the first unwary victim.
