theswarm Posted June 22, 2003 Posted June 22, 2003 I've had this nasty flu type thing for the past week, it's made all of my joints and muscles hurt and feel shrunk (like I stand up and i feel my muscles working hard to do asimple exercise like stand up) - my question is how much rest period should I have from martial arts? I've still been training - the first time i trained while sick i could barely do it properly and it hurt to even stand up. Just curious should I wait till i'm all better, or should I train as normal (i've heard exercise helps)
SaiFightsMS Posted June 22, 2003 Posted June 22, 2003 If you are contagious training is not a good idea. And overexting oneself while under the weather can dramatically extend the recovery time. Training when you are so sick you can barely stand up is not a good idea. I think it is much better to wait until the flu is over and you are at least 50 % to return.
Kamidake Posted June 22, 2003 Posted June 22, 2003 Your classmates will DEFINITELY appreciate it if you stay home till you are better! I am not too sure about martial arts, I'm new to it, but for dancers of all types the general rule is to train at half-speed, so to speak, for every day you were off; if you were in bed with the flu for a week, scale back your training for a week. Then work back up to your normal routine, using how you feel as your guide. I don't think exercise will help do anything except help the flu run longer.
Looneyas Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 I just got over 2 weeks with the flu, 3 days in bed with a fever. Took me 2 weeks to get back to hard training. drink lots of water and rest. Learn and u shall TeachTeach and you shall learn,https://www.southpacifictkd.com.au
