I've had this nasty flu type thing for the past week, it's made all of my joints and muscles hurt and feel shrunk (like I stand up and i feel my muscles working hard to do asimple exercise like stand up) - my question is

how much rest period should I have from martial arts?

I've still been training - the first time i trained while sick i could barely do it properly and it hurt to even stand up.

Just curious should I wait till i'm all better, or should I train as normal (i've heard exercise helps)

If you are contagious training is not a good idea. And overexting oneself while under the weather can dramatically extend the recovery time.

Training when you are so sick you can barely stand up is not a good idea. I think it is much better to wait until the flu is over and you are at least 50 % to return.

Your classmates will DEFINITELY appreciate it if you stay home till you are better!

I am not too sure about martial arts, I'm new to it, but for dancers of all types the general rule is to train at half-speed, so to speak, for every day you were off; if you were in bed with the flu for a week, scale back your training for a week. Then work back up to your normal routine, using how you feel as your guide. I don't think exercise will help do anything except help the flu run longer.
