Squawman Posted June 2, 2003 Posted June 2, 2003 Just wondering if there was any certified personal trainers on here and where you got your credentials.
Looneyas Posted June 2, 2003 Posted June 2, 2003 I did mine through TAFE, depends on where u are. Usally they are run by some sort of federation. Start looking to see if there is a Federation for personal Trainers. Learn and u shall TeachTeach and you shall learn,https://www.southpacifictkd.com.au
Tibby Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 The American Counsel of Exercise is a great place to start. The Certification they give are jokes, but no one know that. All you do is take a test, and you are an official ACE Certificated Personal Trainer.

Tibby Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 Money. If you are certified, people who don’t know any better will pile the money on to lose weight, or gain muscle. A lot of the guys who have those are amateur Body Builders and weightlifters as it is, they already know how to train, but no one will get near you if you don’t that a title behind your name. If you really want to get a Certification, and learn, then you would get a American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)Certification, but hardly anyone ever passes the test he first time, and the text book to pass is MASSIVE! If you are already well versed in weight training and cardio, why waste your time with ACSM when you can get a ACE and start making money on no time! The true measure of a trainor should be his body, not his title.

I'm not saying having a certification - even one you have to work for proves anything, but a meaningless certification is just that - meaningless, so why have it at all - just to fool people? That's like buying a black belt off the internet or through the mail and opening a dojo just because the average person doesn't know any better. That's like buying a black belt off the internet or through the mail and opening a dojo just because the average person doesn't know any better. You misunderstand. Me and my gang and the gym HATE the know-nothing trainers who just got the job for money. I’m not saying you should just become a PT even if you don’t know anything. I’m against it, but it happens. I’m been in a NPC contest or 2, and I’ve been in powerlifting for 2 year, plus I’ve been lifting for 5 year, ever sense I started boxing. My Bookcase has shelves just for my training book, training for Body Building, powerlifting, and all kind of sports, and weight loss, and on top of it, the gym I train at is run by a Physical Therapist who makes sure we are doing things right. I think I know a thing or 2 about training. The point is, It would take me countless hours to fill my head with the information in the ACSM that will never need, hours I could be… I don’t know, TRAINING! Why not just take the ACE test, which I can ace (pardon the really bad pun), and train people right? The question in this thread was :Just wondering if there was any certified personal trainers on here and where you got your credentials. So I replied to his question. He asked which of us where trainers, and were we got certified, and I told him. I don’t think we should have trainers who know nothing, but they happen. If you see a guy who is swollen like a gorilla, with washboard abs, and you see a guy who is 50 lbs over weight, and can’t lift the bar, who do you think is going to be the better trainer? We don’t know what is in the mind, so we have only one way to judge, looking at there body. We don’t know which black belts use them are rank and which are using them to hold there pants up, so we are going to have see them fight to know for sure. A Martial Artist fights, a Personal Trainer lift weights and does cardio. The Proof is in the pudding.
Tombstone Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 I get what you're saying. You know what you're doing and have the ability to help but without that piece of paper you can't get a job. Back to the original topic, No I'm not certified. I've thought about it from time to time though. The only reason I would fail a test is because I don't know alot about foods. And I always liked going to the gym to hangout with friends and have some fun, not to work. Just rambling as usual
