ive been skipping for a couple of months now and im at the peak of performance in which you can have in skipping, thats mean i can do literally all the different styles and tricks with skipping.

Ive been doing them as an alternative way to improve my cardio as using the treadmill too often hurts my knees, and my cardio has improved. However isnt skipping supposed to improve my footwork, am i supposed to be in the bouncing rhytm when i spar as i normally am in when i skip??, what are the xtra benefits which i should be recieving from skipping?

skipping is fun and i think that it will keep you light on your feet and able to move easier as Tombstone said.

Skipping improves cardiovascular endurance as well as working the calves, thighs and buttocks and it also works the abdomen and lower back a bit cos as you bounche your abdomen and back tend to contract to support the shock. The other benefits are improved co-ordination of footwork, and agility. When you skip you want to be going as fast as you can go, to simulate a real fight. A fight is anerobic, I have heared in scientific boxing that fighting is 70% anerobic, and 30% aerobic. GWhen you skip do it as fast as possible, and skip for fighting not for lazingly jogging away on the same sport, imagine fighting while you skip. The other thing you should also do is interval training. Sprint 100 meters or sprint for as long as you like and then till you cant sprint any more you jog 100 meters or whatever you want to jog until you recover and then repeat the whole process again. Boxers use the later where they tend to sprint for long periods of time and then recover to simulate the endurance needed in a fight.

ive heard that bouncing rhythm which you get from skipping and apply it to fighting wastes too much energy, and is generally pointless

Skipping has a lot of advantage over Jogging.

First is the impact that jogging has on the Knees and back and ankles.

Also 3 Minutes of Skipping is worth 1 mile of jogging.

Cordination improves plus the benifit of Cardo work out.

theswarm, i sufferend the same problem, and there was a time when i coulndt do one skip to now where i can do straight skipping for five minutes with no stopping. the main trick is to try an imagine that when the rope is coming close to your feet, dont jump up, but jump so that you will be bending your feet back so that they are trying to touch your backside, this will thus give your more room for the skip rope to pass and then you will find it more easier to skip and then pick it up from there, thats how i achieved them

say what?. how can 3 minutes of skipping equal a mile of jogging?

jogging a mile would roughly take about 9-13 minutes, and only about in the 8 minute will you reach your threshold in which you will be burning fat.

that cannot be reached within 3minutes regardless of any excercise?
