will56 Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 I was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem. Recently a lot of the time when I move into a side splits I get a very uncomfortable pain from my hips to my knees. this even happens at the end of class so I don't think its due to poor warm-up. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening. Any help is greatly appreciated.
monkeygirl Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7492 That provides a lot of links to threads about stretching. It's also a Sticky thread for this forum. OK by a side split, do you mean the kind where you have one leg in front and one leg behind, or the kind where you have one leg to the left and one leg to the right? That's always confused me because it could be interpreted either way. 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
jake Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 ive always known the split when your leg is in front and behind you as just a normal split. if thats wrong blame my mom. haha. but anyway my hips hurt but not down to my knees. it used to be really bad but i just practiced at home and it stopped after a while.
kchenault Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Check out https://www.stadion.com for Thomas Kurz's flexibility training. Great tips and site. He talks about hip pain and what causes it. Ken ChenaultTFT - It does a body good!
martialartist1 Posted May 15, 2003 Posted May 15, 2003 check out my pic for a side split: http://www.geocities.com/leungtg/martialartstrainingtips.html tp://https://www.geocities.com/leungtg/jasonleung.html side splits is when your side on, front splits is when your front on. if you sparred then perhaps u could of pulled the hip muscle by extending kicks to much or extending punches too much. if its your first few times you have ever done the splits then you are bound to expect strains like what you mentioned, but they eventually go away.
