Problem with Roundhouse Kicks

Looneyas

Recommended Posts

Need help on my Roundhouse or slapping kick. or Turning kick.

My problem is when i try to do a hard kick i seem to hurt my toes, As they feel like that the toes are not being turned back so that i use the base of the foot.

My toes are very sore and now my brain says i aint kicking hard on that kick as it hurts.

My problem could be my hip not being in the correct position. Or my toes cant pull back enough.

Any ideas please.

First u must think y ur toes hurt i dont think its because of kicking usually the shock will first go to ur knees because of incorrect technique, try warming up ur feet first i.e warm up joint rotations and foot conditioning. Try it and if there is still a problem go see a proffesional and im sure a doctor can find out what is wrong. GOOD LUCK

Correct your form. Try dropping your hips as you make contact. That is, turning them to face the ground.

Wait a second.....you do roundhouse kicks and make contact with the ball of your foot? Why not just go for the instep or top of the foot, it makes more sense that way. Not only for competition but also for self-defense. In a competition its not smart to kick with the ball of the foot because of the lack of padding, and generally on the street you're going to be wearing shoes if you ever get encountered and its a lot harder to pull your toes back with shoes on than it is to just hit with the top of the foot. Also if you have your toes extended it adds some more power to the centrifugal force of your kick and makes it go faster and harder.

If your toes are hurting when you're throwing roundhouse kicks it is because your body isn't in proper alignment. You need to curl your toes back when you throw this kick and hit with the instep part or your foot. This could also be cause from a lack of flexibility. Make sure to stretch out as much as possible to maximize your flexablity. Practice slow kicking to work on your form. Proper technique takes time to learn.

it aint a lack of flexibility thats for sure i can just about do all 3 splits.

It is my form im postive its my hips, as they feel weird. I have to do this kick as its part of the style.

Yes my toes are curled back its just not hitting on the ball of the foot just half on half on the toes.

Thanks for all the inputt.

Are you turning your pivot foot first so that the toes on that foot face the opposite direction of the kick. That should add to the amount of pivot you are getting and help get the toes on the kicking foot out of the way.

One other thing. Point your knee(of your kicking leg) at your target then kick while rotating your hips downward.
