BKJ1216 Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 I just worked out yesterday. I mean I ran some laps in my backyard and did some cardio stuff. And I am so sore I can barley breath my muschles hurt so bad. I don't think I'll be able to do karate. Should I even bother trying anymore? White Belt- Shudokan Karate
crash Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 dont give up so easily, sure, youre going to be sore and it may be a short while before you notice drastic improvements but if you stick with it,within a few weeks you will start to see definate changes. and believe it or not that soreness can be quite addictive, sometimes I love being sore after a good workout, lol. so stick with it, the soreness does get better. and it does get easier.
BKJ1216 Posted March 4, 2003 Author Posted March 4, 2003 No I mean like every muscle on my body is sore. I can barily breath because my chest and back is so sore. Shoud it go away after a day? So I can continue to work out the next day? I mean like alternate days. White Belt- Shudokan Karate
iolair Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 No I mean like every muscle on my body is sore. I can barily breath because my chest and back is so sore. Shoud it go away after a day? So I can continue to work out the next day? I mean like alternate days. The first time I went to Karate, I think I ached for three or four days. But the second time for about a day, and after that it was fine. Stick with it. If you need to take a week between this workout and the next one, so be it. It doesn't mean you've failed, it means your body is adapting to exercise - to give in now would be to waste all that work! Currently: Kickboxing and variants.Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.
kchenault Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 Dude, take it easy! Start out slowly. Running or jogging is NOT the way you should start. WALK! Don't run yet. You are basicly starting over in fitness. Take your time and ease into it. Walk at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day to help get yourslef into a little better shape. And don't you dare give up so easily! Give yourself time to recover from this fiasco and start over gently. No, it will not go away in a day. Give it about 3 days and you should feel better. Keep it up, just slow it down until you get used to it. Pilsung! Ken ChenaultTFT - It does a body good!
BKJ1216 Posted March 4, 2003 Author Posted March 4, 2003 Alright. In case anyone is wondering, I've never worked out in my life so this is different for me. I'll take your guys' advice in mind. White Belt- Shudokan Karate
crash Posted March 4, 2003 Posted March 4, 2003 when you first start working out you will be very sore, and it can last for a few days. even remaining slightly sore for a week or so ,but it will go away. next time go a little lighter with the work out,but not by much. it's important not to quit. once your muscles get used to the new movements and exertion your body will adapt and the soreness will end.
Smarter Child Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 Don't give up! Would you rather work hard and reach your goals or stay the same as you are now for the rest of your life? You have to start somewhere.
SaiFightsMS Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 Light stretching and long hot showers the next day are very useful. It does pay to start slow. You might be better off starting with a walking program. And you are really not alone. Every couch potatoe who has ever decided doing something a bit more active goes through the same thing.
ramymensa Posted March 5, 2003 Posted March 5, 2003 DON'T GIVE UP !!!!!!!!!!! When I started Karate I was fit and still my first training sessions were devastating I had so much pain in my muscles (I felt muscles I never thought I even had ) I couldn't get up from bed in the morning. I used to roll and fall to the ground. Then moan and whine tiill I got biped again I used to have pains for an entire week at first ... then for 2-3 days and now I don't suffer anymore no matter how hard I train. Your body can be shaped the way you want. Some patience and frequent effort. Keep up doing the training sessions (take it easy at first and then go rough) and you'll be amazed World Shotokan Karate
