Paying Guest Instructors

It depends, obviously, on the circumstances. If they have an hourly rate, I would definitely pay them that. No need to negotiate something that they have already figured out for me. If they do not, and I've never hosted a guest that I had to pay, they all volunteered so take this with a grain of salt, I think I would start around $100, depending on the depth and length of time. If they feel that their time is worth more, then we can negotiate from there.

Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.

Personally, I'd invite them as a "guest", not as a paid instructor. I've sat in on maybe 8-9 testings as a guest instructor for TKD, Kenpo, and a couple of "eclectic" dojo's where they combine several arts into a system of their own. I asked for no compensation, not expected any other than maybe dinner if it was out oftown..

If you don't want to stand behind our troops, please..feel free to stand in front of them.

Student since January 1975---4th Dan, retired due to non-martial arts related injuries.

Seminar or sit on a panel??

If the instructor of a seminar is one that we wanted to visit our dojo, we'd honor their fees, but every fee can be negotiated no matter what because that's what two business do. As a guest on a Testing Cyle panel, and I've done many of those, lunch/dinner works for me.
