Tonfa / Bo

Featured Replies

Where do you buy higher quality kobudo weapons like tonfa and bo? I am aware of Shureido and Shushin. For the record, I am in the USA.

E-Bogu and Seidoshop!! Their Tonfa's are top notch in my book, and are reasonably priced. Not saying that Century MA Supplies, my go to MA supplier, sells inferior Tonfa's, because imho, they don't.

Seidoshop and Century MA Supplies for the Bo!! The Seidoshop Bo, while it was quite pricey, over $250, yet, it was as solid as I've ever seen.

:)

They all use different type of woods. I would posit that Century is also mass produced BUT I never tried theirs. I have all handmade ones. Broke a few... Broke a pr24... Even the best can be broken... So you are probably right lol

I actually made my own bo a few months ago out of a chunk of purpleheart.  I had purchased a 6.5' x 8" x 2" slab of purpleheart a number of years ago.  I ran it through my table saw to make a 1 3/8" square, then went to octagonal (by turning the saw to 45 degrees and adjusting the fence.  I then knocked down the corners with a hand plane and sanded the entire thing down to 400 grit.  Next I used a buffing wheel with several different compounds, and finished it with gun stock oil (birchwood-casey Tru Oil)

It's an absolute beast to wield, but it's fantastic exercise.  I only use it for regular training classes; I would never test with it.  But it looks and feels awesome; just the right amount of grip

Impressive!! I’ve no carpenter skills of any type. I might be able to nail two pieces of wood together but that’s the extent of it. I’m embarrassed, to say the least.
