I am not really a Karate guy, but this is what I was able to find for a Goju grading syllabus. It seems legit based on the about a year of Goju I did a LONG time ago. I have never seen anything on a Karate syllabus to include

Kani-Basami, but I HAVE seen my Goju instructor do what he called a scissor kick, which would look similar to kani but would score by kicking uke in the chest instead of by taking him to the ground.

Can anyone point me to a grading syllabus for goju-kai. In particular, I am trying to find where (if at all) a leg throw - similar to kami basami - fits in. Many thanks

I am not with the Goju Kai but have years in Yuishinkan Goju Ryu, which is somewhat close (Osaka based). So I am not sure if Goju Kai includes throws specifically... Our founder (Kisaki) included 24 formalized Nage Waza, but none equivalent to the Kami Basami (had to youtube it to be sure: its the "scissors" takedown). Some leg sweeps are part of our curriculum, though, and 2 -3 throws must be demonstrated as part of our gradings.

I have occasionally practiced the scissors throw...but not often and then just for fun. Generally, we are not too fond of "sacrifice" throws where both (you and the opponent) end up on the ground.

Also sorry, not available online to my knowledge. But in my system (urban based with goju-ki influence), it would be around 3rd-1st kyu (Brown belt level techniques). Part of the Ippon Kumite curriculum.
