I'm new to the site, so just dropping in to say hello tonight.

Name: xwingday

Styles: Taekwondo (1st DAN) and Kenpo (New student)

Career: Security, I specialize in dealing with schools and school events.

Age: 30s

Brief history: I'm an Army veteran, grew up in a low income area. Had a teacher in school who practiced Hapkido and gave free lessons after school. Unfortunately, after a year he moved away and as far as I know no one from the "Karate Club" had the money to seek other instruction at the time.

On leaving service in my mid twenties I took up security work and began looking at martial arts again. Because of the above mentioned I looked for Korean arts first, and found a small place teaching mostly TKD where I felt at home.

Life has moved on, Grand Master is nearly retired and I started looking for something more applicable to my career field. In November I decided to sign on for a year at a self defense school which uses kenpo as it's core art. So far I am very happy with the art, with my instructors and with the general feel of the program.

Arts I avoid:

Judo and BJJ - I don't mind learning techniques from either but I have always liked striking better. Still, I respect both arts especially as one of the martial artist I most respect is a 70+ year old Judo instructor.

That's me in a nutshell.

Welcome xwingday.

The person who succeeds is not the one who holds back, fearing failure, nor the one who never fails-but the one who moves on in spite of failure.
