Trying to train through Lyme Disease

Hi JR 137 wishing you a full Speedy recovery.

Perhaps a tick repellent might be in order as not knowing the where's when's and how's of getting infected.

(Ticks are the toughest creatures on the planet, that can survive eight years without water, that carrying many infectious diseases)

Hope you beat this thing JR 137 and makes you much stronger than you were before this unfortunate mess ever started.

I went through this during medical treatment this year and didn't want to sit out. I was under par and could only really manage about 45 minutes before a heavy fog came down. However, exercise was important to outcomes, mentally and physically.

I worked around it in a few ways - I took on more an assistant instructor role. I did my own warmup and just stretched when others were doing more cardio stuff. I also found when training a home I got 45 minutes out of myself pretty much whatever I was doing so I went for skipping rope and bag work in intervals.

It's also important to know limitations. I went in a tournament, and if you watched me warm up you'd think I was fine, but mentally I was slow. I can recall clearly thinking there's a kick coming at my head, I should move. I really should move. Yep, I should have moved. listen to your doctor and your body.

Hi tubby. I wasn't quite sure what medical condition you were up against until I saw your post on the 2017 goals thread. I can only assume what you're going through is like what I'm going through x 100. Thanks for the inspiration!

You hit the nail on the head when you say "Exercise is important to outcomes, mentally and physically." That's what pushes me to train hard, and what's really driving me now. I can't sit around and wait. There's a balance somewhere, and I'm trying to find it. I don't think that balance is sitting and waiting while doing nothing. Getting in the dojo has always made me feel better physically afterward and cleared my head from the day to day stuff. Currently it doesn't; I actually feel worse. I feel worse physically during and more importantly afterward, and the whole time my body tells my brain to stop. I keep telling myself to stop being soft (only I use far more offensive terms) and get through another few minutes.

I feel like if I warm up, stretch, go through basics and kata then stop, I'll feel better. Getting my body moving has always made me feel better in the past. Not this time around.

I guess I just convinced myself self to wait until after the holidays to try again. Not sure if my brain will listen to my body for that long though.

I doubt my condition is 100* as bad, it's more the case of good days then really bad ones. I hope you can find the balance to help you get through. For a lot of the time my poomsae had the appearance of a very fragile person doing tai chi, but it all helped when I was tired, sore and stiff.

Still battling this nonsense. I was doing better, then got worse again. While I've never felt 100% since the onset of symptoms, I was about 75%. At almost 2 weeks after the course of antibiotics, I started regressing. After about 5 days, I felt like I was back to when I started. I got a sinus infection on top of it. Because my immune system is run down, it made the sinus infection feel so much worse. Had I not been off work for the Christmas break, I would've had to take about 10 days off. Back on the antibiotics. I honestly haven't felt right since about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Going on 2 months now.

I'm physically run down. No amount of sleep makes any difference. You'd think a good 10 hours of sleep would make a difference. Not at all. I'm sore and stiff. Every time I've felt this way, exercise has made me feel better. Get up and move. Warm up and stretch. It honestly makes me feel worse afterward.

I teach pre-k and kindergarten phys ed. The 10 or 15 minutes I spend at the beginning of class warming up with the kids wipes me out for the rest of the day. It's always made me feel better in the past.

I know it'll be over eventually; but that doesn't make me feel better now.

That's really tough to deal with. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Most importantly, keep your head up, and try to stay as positive as you can.

my 2 kids wipe me out all the time, a class full of other peoples kids must be hell sometimes :) its hard to wan to do physical stuff but be unable, but keep at it, you'll get there sooner than you think

3rd round of antibiotics. Lyme is still in my blood. Doing some other tests so I can bring them to an infectious disease specialist.

Just got put on blood pressure meds too. BP was 141/109. I need exercise, but I don't have enough energy. Little bit of a quandary there, huh?
