What are some of your favourite sparring drills?

Do you have any special footwork drills or sparring combinations which you like to work?

usually mine involve several cones and you have to be able to maneuver whilst dealing with multiple attackers where you perform various combos or counters in relation to those attackers.

Whenever Greg, our Kancho, and I spar, we go all out with full speed and full power...that's MY favorite sparring drill!!

I like HIIT. I do several variations from bag work to cycling. I also do an endurance drill that my sensei has us do when belt testing. It sucks to high heaven but tests and improves your capacity. You need a clock or timer. Here it is:

Run in place for one minute (high knees)

Jumping Jack's for one minute. (Hands clapping at top)

Push ups - 30

Jumping front snap kick one minute.

Repeat until you feel like your going to pass out. Ha ha

Sparring is honesty the rest is art.

I like to counter drills for kicking. Countering back leg round kicks with spin side kicks, spin hook/heel kicks, or 360 round kicks. Working variations on those.

I also like drills that get you to cut to an angle and get off-line of an attack, and then attacking the centerline.

I did a fun drill today in DT, using focus mitts to work in close and fight inside. From there, we stood inside a little circle, and had to stay inside the circle, so we had to work inside the whole time.
