I agree though, if your ever concerned about practicing too much with the instructor then you should speak to them. When training on your own you shouldn't feel like your developing bad habits. I find with kata training, i still focus on: stances (are they correct?), hand techniques (are they correct), am I doing the pattern overall correctly? You shouldn't feel like your developing bad habits when training outside of the class. The only way you develop bad habits is if you don't be strict enough on what the techniques are meant to be like. And definitely rushing it is a bad way to go about it. RAM18
I was going to mention books too. Between class, books and YouTube you should be able to learn what you need well enough. If you have questions ask in class!! also most schools have subtle differences in kata. The way your Sensei's wants it performed is Gospel not YouTube! If you struggling to find videos on YouTube maybe try Shorin Ryu katas as from the little knowledge i have of your style that's the base style is derived from? That which does not kill us, must have missed us.- Miowara Tomoka
Nidan Melbourne
I'm not really that concerned with rank, but at the same time, I'd really like to get out of this white belt ASAP.May I ask why you want to get out of the White Belt ASAP even if your not overly concerned about rank? sensei8
Something to chew on...I sincerely believe that of all of the ranks, White Belt is the most important rank of them all. Why? Without White Belt, the other ranks can't exist!! **Proof is on the floor!!!

Judodad_karateson
May I ask why you want to get out of the White Belt ASAP even if your not overly concerned about rank?Because people who show up for a trial class and never return get a white belt. Its a mental game, a way of knowing I'm not a newbie, that while I have Mountains still to climb, I have at least started on the path.
