RAM18
Dislikes:Anywhere called xxxx's Black Belt Academy Anywhere that has classes for lil' dragons. ninjas or tigers. Or anything else preceded by lil'.Anywhere that has a 'program' that has to be 'signed up' for.Anywhere you have to pay more than a few £/$ for a grading.Anywhere they wear more than one patch on their gi. (maybe 2)Anywhere that tells you not to wash your belt.Stupid kiai's (eesaaaaaaaaaaah)Screaming out the name of the kata so that nobody can actually understand it.Extremely dramatic walk outs onto the mat for kata competition.Team kata displays.OK most of these points i wholly agree a with but a few thoughts of my own.My school has black belt academy in its name and its run by two ex British karate team members. If i had been training at a Mcdojo for the last three years i would be a Dan rank by now and would be poor.... don't always judge books by there covers! Also stupid Kiai's... That's really subjective. Have you read into the reason for Kiai? From Wikipedia: Kiai relates to the manifestation, emission or projection of ones own energy (internal strength). How people choose to vocalize that will be different from person to person. As long at its genuine then it should matter what it sounds like....lastly Team kata? Nearly all tournaments and competitions have a team kata section. Are you against the principle of it then? That which does not kill us, must have missed us.- Miowara Tomoka
vaporman
''Also stupid Kiai's.''For practice they can be useful but in real life if you do that you give your breath or position away, personally a slight hissing sound is all you can hear most times. Did them in karate but felt so stupid and the fact that if you didn't do them loud would be bad,lol..... Inca Warriors - Warriors of the Inca people were brainwashed for many years to forget fear completely until they became fearless to everything and then they were officially a warrior.
