Check with your doctor first in regards to this. If you do decide to do kumite then be aware that you can cause more damage to yourself than already.

So best wait off until it heals up or you get it fixed.

Yes, you are right but it's only a matter of not being able to imagine karate without sparring !

it is hard to imagine it without sparring. But once it is more healed then it can be one thing.

But if it is going to be long term you will have to vary how you fight.

That's exactly my question. if you can fight without relying on your left leg front kicks or not? and if yes, do you have any advice about how to do it ?!

If I was your Sensei, I'd advice you to not do anything that will cause your healing process to be unnecessarily delayed. Testing cycle's will always be there, and as a MAist, you must learn that if the next cycle isn't a possibility for you, then when the time is right, that cycle will be there. I'd even pull your name off the up and coming testing cycle until your doctor gave you a note saying that you're ankle is ready for MA activities. That's just me.

Please, don't cause unnecessary activities until your ankle is strong enough to support your MA activities.

Imho!!

Bill "Superfoot" Wallace did really good with one leg kicking after he got injured but he waited until he was completely healed :D .

Just listen to what you feel and what your body is telling you.

Take care and be safe out there.

The problem is it might not heal at all as it has been there for at least 7 years!!

I will be referred to a specialist and I will wait for his/her opinion. till then I will practice karate as long as my ankle is not painful and that's my GP advice anyway. :D

So to clarify. You have an ununited fracture on your foot and your Doctor has given you clearance to train. It is not going to get better (without surgery) I presume? I have a similar thing in my wrist since 1991. Still there. I occasionally jar it when I hit something hard but it hasn't really got any worse.

The answer is yes. You can spar without using that foot. Most fighter favour different techniques and hands over feet or vice versa. Bill Wallace has already been mentioned.

yes, you got a clear picture of my situation :D and that's good to find someone who has similar problem and can handle it, getting more optimistic about my situation now

You will just have to find ways to adjust to do what you can. It may take a lot of work, and you will really have to specialize in some things, but you can make it work.

I am more than happy to do heaps of work and effort to do this. When I first started karate, sparring was my main challenge as I was really afraid of it & now it becomes more & more challenging. For this reason I am trying to find the right technique to compensate my left anklre problem while sparring.
