You are never too old, when I tried out Kyokushin there were people in their 50's and 60's trying it out. Basic requirements? The willingness to learn. There are also Kyokushin classes for those with disabilities. So the art itself is like any other good karate style (eg Shotokan, Goju, etc), you just have to find the right instructor for you.
