Bruised Knuckles *ouch*

Greetings fellow seekers,

I must confess to you all, I was overly zealous in my training.

I punched the training dummy for too long, with too much force, without gloves on.

I now have very nasty bruises on each my middle finger knuckles...

Yikes!

Two questions for you, my friends:

1. Any tips on how to get it to heal faster?

2. How long before I can start punching things again without fear of serious injury?

Also please note I have a really nice pair of training gloves, but I didn't feel like wearing them because I like to feel the feedback on my hand....

Any advice on how to toughen up my knuckles to avoid brusies in the future?

thank you all for your help :karate:

You should probably start with hand wraps that boxers use, I used to use them myself But it depends on what bag you are hitting, canvas(which will def. bruise until you devlop callouses) or the wave master types. You want to eventually build a foundation for your hands and wrists and try not to to go full power at first but stand far enough away from the bag so you can work technique because your first and middle finger knuckles are what you should be working on. Here is a great conditioning video.

I recommend starting with a phone book first if you can use it or just set it on the floor and hit it for about 10 min, built ur knuckles up, do knuckle pushups as well. youtube has some good hand conditioning excercises, remember to look for beginner stuff. Hope this helps.

Wait until you can punch the bag without hurting the bruise on the knuckles before getting back to it. It may not sound good, but that's why this kind of training isn't highly advisable. Now, you have down time that won't help you improve. You can punch the air, though.

In the future, control how much you punch the bag, or use wraps or gloves. Training equipment like that was invented to make training better and longer.
