savedbygrace
I possible should have put this somewhere else...but its kinda related to training, so I'll try it here. I was just curious if anyone else feels this way. Now, I know I'm weird.. ..but I didnt know if I was the only one that felt this way.I love to train...stretching, kicking, punching, sweating, getting the ole ticker to pounding hard...I love it BUT I HATE my limitaions...I want SO BAD to be able to kick higher and faster and my progress is just not coming fast enough for me. Grant it, I know Im 30 years old and the last strenous working out and stretching I last done was in high school... ...but I guess Im just impatient....Its kinda like a catch 22...I will pray for the Lord to give me more patience, but I'll pray wanting it right THEN.... ..anyway doeas anyone else ever feel this way? I've been training for almost a year and I can see GREAT improvements from a year ago, but I want to keep going and get better, mainly with my stretching ability but it just isnt coming fast enough.....Thanks for the input. Fish
Of course. This is normal. It's part of what keeps us striving for improvement. "They can because they think they can." - School Motto.(Shodan 11th Oct 08)
TigerDude
I don't know if it's normal or not, but progress takes time. The Law of the Harvest. If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. bushido_man96
Everyone experiences this in some point of their training. It is called the plateau. You gain, gain, gain, and then it seems like the body tops out. Now, you have to just keep plugging away. It will take longer to notice some gains, but they will still come, only in smaller increments. One thing that can help to break the plateau is to change up some of your training routines, yet still keep the same goals in mind. That will help get your body out of the rut you may have worked it into by doing the same routine for a long period of time.Loren Christensen says: "You can't do the same thing everyday and expect different results. Do something different!" https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

This is normal and is not unlike how you might have felt in your spiritual life when you had your first major trials and tribulations after the excitement of being a new Christian. Just as a baby Christian is often very excited about his or her new found faith in Jesus and all the positive life-changes that come along with that, a new martial arts student often is excited about all the mental and physical results that come from that initial short time of training. You will hit a time here where the going gets tough and you will want to just give up because you think you aren't any good and that you can't get any better. This too shall pass. I know exactly what you're going through. There is a breakthrough at the end of the tunnel you're in, I promise. I guess its ironic how I also feel that Ive hit a low point in my Christian walk as well. Funny how you saw that. But thank you very much for your thoughts. I covet your prayers that, with the Lord's help, He will pull me through this low point I am in not only in my trainging but in my spiritual walk as well. bushido_man96
If it makes you feel any better, in 14 years of TKD training, I have never been able to do the splits. I have been close, but I have never got there. So, if you do get there, you will be one up on me! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Athena
reply to all replies before me..= XDanyways..yes, it is totally natural. *nods* and if you think about it...if you are normally passionate about ANYTHING, there will always be a plateu or however it's spelled >.>;;like in science for me in school, just as an example. I LOVE science, and I only want to learn more. I've always had straight A's in science. But this year, I just can't seem to get my grade above a B, it's just a bit frustrating..ity's a bit strange to me though because at the same time, I am doing better at my other classes O.o Strike first. 'Til then i will not fight you. Everytime someone calls JKD a style, Bruce turns over. Why do I love Bruce Lee? Not because he was an awesome martial artist- but because his train of thought overlapped with mine even before I knew about him. Thank you karate forums, for introducing me to Bruce Lee
