Shotokan-kez Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 I have to admit i did go to class a few weeks ago just as a cold was starting up, i didnt go after that though because i had no energy. Generally i wouldn't train while being ill, i don't think it's very fair to pass your germs around, even if you are generous and like to share lol Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
baronbvp Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 to my knowledge ( and I have asked) I haven't contaminated anyone else. You have no way of knowing if this is the case. It takes 7-10 days to incubate a cold. I think you should assume you have contaminated someone else.I often train sick - at the dojo. But, in my defense with ~30 little kids, it's not likely that I am the one passing on the numerous colds, flus and who-knows-what's that go around the dojo.Thank you for being honest here, but I find your logic flawed. The person(s) who are sick are the ones passing illnesses around, no matter how old they are. Sickness and infection in schools and gyms get people sick - infections including respiratory, athlete's foot, norovirus and staph. I know for me personally, I don't want anyone else's germs on the mat or pads or training implements or whatever. I don't bring mine in to share with others.Remember, some others who train may be immuno-compromised. IMO students and staff alike should train at home if they must train when ill. Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.Martial arts are like kinetic chess. Your move.

Yes, anyone can carry a virus as well as the next person. I just meant they are exposed to more and especially the jrs in my dojo are always sick, so I don't feel as guilty if others get sick External training without the training of the mind is nothing
Existence_is _suffering Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 I find that going easy on the training always helps... I usually halve my "base" training (sit-ups, push-ups, crunches etc.) and weight-training, cut out any running/jogging altogether and keep things like stance and technique training at their normal rate (unless it's wearing me down substantially). I find if I keep up my normal regime I get sicker for longer.. The first person to call me mate gets a punch in the throat...
NightOwl Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Can you catch a cold from a message board? Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.~Theodore Roosevelt
KarateEd Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 I don't think it is a good idea. In the closed environment of the training hall you run the risk of making other people sick. I like to go running when I have a cold or cold-like symptoms. It seems to help, but I run outdoors so contaminating others isn't really an issue. Ed Ed

DasZab Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Oh, man, I'd never go to the dojo when I'm sick! =O I don't want other people to get ill, too... Sometimes I will continue to practice at home, though, depending on how I'm feeling. La voie. La vérité. La vie.
Tiger1962 Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Personally I get annoyed when students come to class with a runny nose, coughing and are obviously sick. Since you have contact with your classmates, germs are easily spread. I stay home when I'm sick and I wish / hope others would too.
