I also like to bounce a tennis ball off the floor and kick it while it's in the air. But since I knocked over a cup of coffee with the ball, I've given up the activity.

That sounds like fun! I may have to try it!

Alot of times in BJJ you get alot of guys who think they're real tough. They watched an episode of Ultimate Fighter and seem like they have something to prove.

Anyway, when they come in new and off the street, we always place more experienced guys with them to drill and roll. If they guy is staying relaxed and practicing good technique that was taught they we let them work. If they get too frisky and won't relax when we ask them to do so...it's time for a clinic. It's not to show off as much as it is to show them how useless just muscling through stuff is. I'd be lying if I didn't admit it is a little satisfying though.

I've had this experience too with new students in aikido. I'll be demonstrating a technique and they'll be trying to resist or reverse the technique when I'm just trying to teach them. I have to remind them that it's not a competition and that they risk hurting themselves. A couple times I've had to put the noobs down hard on the mat..just a little tough love to show them that watching fights on you tube doesn't make them experts.

I've been known to come out of the cleaning closet at work and attack my co-worker doing sinwali with the vacuum cleaner pipes.

i think we've all done it at some point. Or will in the future. For me it was in the 7th grade a year after i quit karate. I did a mawashigeri over my head while walking to the field in PE class and everyone who was behind me was like WHOOAAAAAEJG:LKJ:EKLJGEL:KJ..............not that it was all that impressive, but they probably never thought me of all people could do something like that. Since i was a little tubby even back then.

I don't even know why i did it. It just came out. Kinda weird.

I have to admit, I too have been subject to showing off once or twice in the past.

I think this is normal, but at the same time, i think we need to keep our egos in check too...

I agree with you here, but sometimes, when you have a talent, it is nice to find someone to kind of brag to once in a while! :D
