I suffer with palpatations, sometimes my heart beats so fast it's scary. It's often brought on my nothing, i could be relaxing watching tv or in a nice hot bath...then wham, rapid heartbeat. The only thing i can do is not panic, lie down and take deep breaths until it passes.

I also suffer with a fluttery heartbeat and it often feels like it skips a beat. I'm not overly concerned by it, i do have anxiety and have been putting it down to that, just that sometimes i don't understand how it can be caused by anxiety when im often completely relaxed when this happens.

I would rather not go see my gp because of the fact this is what he will tell, your having a panic attack and then i feel like i have wasted his prescious time. :( I once read in a book that this is a common complaint in young athletic people, is this true? Can anyone shed any light on what is happening or is it purely my daft mind and anxiety :)

You really need to see a physician about it. You only have one heart - you really need it to work right.

They can fit you with a monitor to record your heart over time to determine what is happening. I really doubt that a doctor would consider such a condition a waste of time.

Good luck.

If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. You must thoroughly research this. - Musashi

This is good advise. My mom had a problem where her heart rate got down to like 40 bpm when she slept. And when she worked out, she couldn't even get her heart rate up to a fat burning rate, even when she was walking at 6 mph. She was put on a heart monitor to check it out, and they ended up putting a pacemaker in after all was said and done.

Get it checked out, Kerry, to be safe.

Yeah i know i should, it's just that it's not a regular thing, its just when it does happen it frightens me. I just don't want to be seen to be wasting the doctors time if it is 'just anxiety'

Hey, if it concerns you, then don't worry about wasting a doc's time for doing what he is supposed to do. I would just go get it done. If it is anxiety, you should be able to get some meds for it.
