KarateK Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Well boys and girls the time has come - have got a date for my arthroscopy finally, 19th October. Still not sure if they are actually going to do any repairs while they are in there but we shall see. Anyone known of someone to have this? Any complications etc? Karate Ni Sentinashi
Kenpo5th Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I've had 4. What is the actual complaint? Meniscus? Bone fragments? or just exploratory? There are no real side effects from the operation. Just don't be alarmed if you wake up the next day and the bandages have bled through. It does happen, though not all the time. Only once for me. The main problem after this type of surgery is the pain until your ortho doc drains the fluid out of your knee within the first 72 hours. That is the worst part, worse than the surgery itself... After that, it's smoothe sailing on percocet. Although, that's the other thing you need to be careful about. The reason I've now had 5 knee surgeres was because my knee felt so good after them, that I didn't wait the full rehab time. GO SLOW, best advice I can give. ~Shaun E. bushido_man96 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 My instructor has had a few scopes. He always comes back, and is still going strong. Just give your body the time it requires, and don't push it. Best of luck to you! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Jadnek Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Yeah- it really depends on what they find- extent of injury. I blew out my right knee in the middle of my 2nd brown test a number of years ago. The ACL was completely torn in half and I had to have reconstructive surgery. It took me a year to rehab. it and really get back going strong in my training. I hope your appt. goes well and it is nothing more serious than just a tear.....keep us posted. If you were waiting for the opportune moment, that was it. ~Captain Jack Sparrow~

Sohan Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Think positive and don't allow yourself to consider anything other than success here. Your emotional outlike and determination will make a world of difference in your recovery. This is the best time to fall back on the principles you've learned in karate--you are going to find them more useful than you thought! We're all pulling for you, KarateK. Let us know how things go!With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth."
