ang_soo_do_guy Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 hey ive been told to do bodyweight excercise to get a more defined look than a bulky 1 but does ne1 know if it actually works or are they to little of an exercise "learning a martial art is like tuning a string instrument. tune the strings too hard and they will snap tune them too little and it will not play but tune it right and you will have music for a lifetime"-anonomous
bushido_man96 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 by bodyweight exercises, do you mean push-ups, sit-ups, dips, pull-ups, and things like that? I am somewhat confused. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
ang_soo_do_guy Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 yeah using your bodyweight as resistance instead of weights "learning a martial art is like tuning a string instrument. tune the strings too hard and they will snap tune them too little and it will not play but tune it right and you will have music for a lifetime"-anonomous
Smitty Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 After a certain point, you can't gain size from a bodyweight exercise. Then it just becomes endurance. In the higher rep ranges, it does help burn calories from doing the movements so much, but cardiovascular work is better for that.
MizuRyu Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I LOVE bodyweight exercises. I'm sure you've seen pictures of olympic gymnists and such, and that's what they thrive on. There is soooooo much you can do with a pull up bar, 4 cinder blocks and your floor. Once certain exercises get too easy try new variations. I had a problem with pushups not being a challenge anymore so I put my feet on 2 cinder blocks stacked, and my hands on cinder blocks as well, dip down as far as possible, and do hopping pushups. Same with abs, hold yourself in a chin up position on the bar and do full extension leg crunches. With proper technique bodyweight training can make you into a monster. bushido_man96 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Have you tried one-arm pushups yet?I have. Man, they're crazy hard.No joke. I can't even do regular pushups worth a hoot! Tone is nothing more than residual tension in a relaxed muscle. that combined with low bodyfat = definition. you can achieve that look with weights or without. Also, the thought that lifting weights has to make you bulky is dead wrong.
