Aodhan Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 True, the only thing us men have to suffer is women! :D :D Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player

KarateK Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Now now Kez leave the poor guy alone!!Personally I don't have a problem. My mum however has a lot pf problems - the exercise makes it worse. Think its a variety of factors - age, fitness etc. Plus sheer bad luck at times Karate Ni Sentinashi
Bluetulipx Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 I have been doing the martial arts for nearly 7 years and sometimes I get worse cramps than others when I have my period. I also do 3 different martial arts.Sometimes, when my cramps are severe and I am at work, I think it would help if I could bend over as the pain is extreme and nothing can help (best I can relate to is when I had food poisoning on one occasion and the feeling was similar).Anyway, much as I like the advice that exercise does help, I'm afraid in my case ... NOTHING, BUT NOTHING martial arts related is going to make it better and there is NO CHANCE that I can attempt to do tae kwon do, kick boxing or aikido ... as I find it hard enough to stand up.Lucky for me though, it's not that painful every month, but I do not know that there is a solution to this one other than sitting it out.
KarateK Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Bluetulip well done for stating the obvious - sometimes its just too severe for some women. You shouldnt be made to feel like you have to do MA when you are seriously suffering. Karate Ni Sentinashi
hurricane Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 I hardly ever have bad cramps but when I do, I find that karate does help. If you are not only crampy but also bloated, it helps even more. That's for me, anyways. But if you feel like you have to sit out because you are in so much pain, I would suggest trying some gentler exercise, like yoga, or stretching. Or self-train at home doing slow katas and stuff. Maybe by doing that you can get your body used to doing some exercises while your on your period.
ninjanurse Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Just a note: Most painful periods can be caused by fixable things so maybe a trip top the doctor can help in some cases. No one should have to suffer through their menses-it is not normal. KarateGirl1387 Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Yeah, like June1 said, I think it depends upon the woman, but I've learned that exercising and doing activity around the time of your period lessens your cramps. "It's not just Karate, it's a way of life."
