ShotokanKid
I'm having trouble doing an armbar. I can't do it without a cup on, but I see other guys doing armbars (when they're not wearing cups, and they're lifting their hips off the ground). What am I doing wrong? Is there a specific way my body and his arm has to be positioned so it doesn't hurt? I can't do the regular armbar without a cup so I put the arm across my thigh, and they escape because I don't have enough leverage. So, how do you do this: http://www.asu.edu/clubs/pankration/ArmBar.jpgwithout a cup and without hurting yourself? Maddwraph
squeeze your knees tight to hold his arm in place, if you dont, the arm will pressue down on your groin. Im brasilian, but live in the united states. Really enjoying martial arts.
ShotokanKid
So should the knees be what puts pressure on the joint? Thanks, by the way. Maddwraph
np, squeezig your knees tight will hold his arm in place so not for it to not put pressure on the groin, but also to help guarantee that he cant just pull his arm out. when his arm is held in place, pulling it where the elbow does not bend and rasing your hips is what is going to cause the pressure. ShotokanKid
Where should the elbow be in relation to my own body? "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. Maddwraph
the elbow should be facing towards your groin since you are moving up agaisnt it. but if the elbow happens to be facing another way turn the arm that way. topdawg
You can also use your hip bone not you groin as the fulcrum A computer beat me in a game of chess once but it was no match for me in a kickboxing match
ps1
Also, be sure not to cross your feet, if you're doing this. It can counter act the effect of squeezing your knees. Be sure your butt is as close to your opponent as possible, the harder it is for the opponent to put his back to the ground, the more effective your arm bar will become. How are you getting to the arm bar? Are you starting in mount, side control, guard, knee in the belly? "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius." ShotokanKid
I'm just practicing the technique... I haven't really used this particular armbar in a match. Medici
You are probably not pulling the arm across one of your hip bones, just your cup, which is between the two. It needs to be across one of the hip bones, and be sure to squeeze your knees!
