I do try to look confident who-ever when i'm sparring but i think it works, i have to much of a cute, young face :brow:

I have the same problem.....the cursed baby-face! I don't think I could look tough if I tried. I need some scars on my face, or somehting!

Seriously, though, I think the key to intimidation is in the eyes. Some people can just get that cold-blooded look in their eyes. That is where the power of intimidation lies, IMHO.

Try being 4'11, and baby faced, looking about 3-4 years younger than you are and generally being 'cute' (according to my friends anyways.lol). It really doesn't help your cause. However, I have been called scary by a couple MA guys in my dojo and by a couple friends who saw me angry. Who knows? Maybe it's because I'm a love to spar, rough type of person. Meh. If I can be scary, I'm sure you can ;)

External training without the training of the mind is nothing

Hehe yeah i can be scary when i want to be. I am almost 30 and still asked for I.D for alcohol (our law 18) and various other things. Thats the good thing about being small, cute and very young looking. You can scare people half to death while grading when you suddenly go for it in a fight

Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk

Your almost 30? We are about the same age!! :)

I think the most powerful intimidation is full frontal eye contact and calmness. Nothing cuts into someone quite like being diffused by one's eyes, especially if the expression is soft. Maybe not as much intimidation, but more of a diffuser. Of course, this will make them less likely to attack at full force in my opinion, as it does betray some sort of knowledge (thus planting a sort of seed of doubt).

I'm typically not too frightened of guys who puff up and yell, but for some reason the calm quiet ones really get under my skin.

I both agree and disagree with eye contact. it can intimidate some, but to others, "mean mugging" them and making eye contact is disrespect and cause for a confrontation.
