This is pretty much how i've been taking all the posts in that i read.. JKD is a mentallity, and doesn't teach you fighting moves, or anything, it just tells you to be free...???

I take it like this:

From what I hear and read, JKD practictioners seem to be constantly thinking of the fact that its so much different than any other martial art. That being said, I think they do have classes and tecniques, however it is overshadowed by the philosphy(when talking with other MA). Just to note, I dont think its actually very different from an other martial art at all... I'm also pretty sure it means to be clear minded in a fight and let your body react and instead of reacting a certain way to a certain attack, you use your instinct... :-?

I think this would be a much more reliable referance  ...

there are two different types of jkd, there is Jeet Kune Do which is the art that Bruce Lee developed and there is Jeet Kune Do concepts which is a always evolving art. This means if you go to 2 different schools that teach jkd concepts tehy my be simmilar with a few difference or they could seem almost completly different. But if you go to a Jun Fan jkd school you will learn the art as Lee himself developed it

I posted a similar reply on another thread:

By default, JKD is what works. If it doesn't work, its not JKD.

Having said that, there are multiple solutions to any given problem, so JKD can define any number of separate "solutions," if you will.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

Theoreticaly, nothing beats jkd. It just can't.

Reading the Tao of Jeet Kun Do, by Bruce Lee,

will shed light on these questions, especially pages 205-208.

not to be rude but what gives u the right to decide what works and what dosen't unless u have actually tried using the fighting art in combat before and even then in depends entirely own the combat situaition, and most importantly how good a MAtist u are with it to begin with. JKD is a MA style aswell as a philosphy it dose tell u to be free and adapt like u said, but it was also a style that incorperated many, techniques from tons and tons of others into one to make a new sorta super style.

I JUST started taking JKD 1 1/2 weeks ago. And in the 3 Classes that I have been to so far, I've learned a great deal. I feel I'm already a better fighter than before. IMO it defintly is an awesome style to learn and I feel 100% sure that in a real life scenario it could help you defend yourself and or save your life.

The following text is taken from page 208 of 'Tao of Jeet Kun Do.' by Bruce Lee.

It is the last paragraph before his final signature:

"If people say that Jeet Kun Do is different from 'this' or 'that', then let the name of Jeet Kun Do be wiped out, for that is what it is, just a name. Please dont fuss over it."

It helps to have read pages 1-207 as well, to draw more meaning from the above statement.

Cheers.
